The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 34
Seeing that Charlie agreed to the class reunion, Claire reminded him, “Douglas’s restaurant is opening, so we should prepare some gifts; we can’t go empty-handed.”
Charlie nodded and replied, “I’ll pick up a gift for him tomorrow morning.”
“Great,” Claire said. “It just so happens that I need to go to Emgrand Group tomorrow morning.”
Loreen exclaimed in surprise, “You’re coming to Emgrand tomorrow morning? Then find me when you’re done. I can take your car to Douglas’s restaurant at noon.”
Claire smiled and replied, “Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don’t have a car. I usually take a taxi or the bus and sometimes Charlie picks me up on his electric bike.”
“Really?” Loreen asked incredulously. “You’re already a director, yet you haven’t bought a car yet!”
Claire explained, “I haven’t been working for long and I’ve hardly made much money. Charlie and I have expenses to cover and I also support my mother. I can only save a few thousand dollars a month, which is not enough for a car.”
Additionally, Claire added, “Honestly, I think the bus is quite convenient. When the weather is nice, it’s actually pleasant to ride on Charlie’s electric bike.”
Loreen said earnestly, “You really need to pay more attention to appearances. After all, you’re now the director of Wilson Group and a direct partner of Emgrand. If you don’t even have a car, people will start to talk.”
Charlie felt that Loreen had a point. His wife had always been overly frugal, most of her earnings went to her mother, leaving her little to enjoy life.
His mother-in-law was a glutton who only consumed without contributing. She had saved over a million dollars and made risky investments, yet couldn’t even spare 200,000 or 300,000 dollars to buy a car for her daughter.
Realizing this, he felt it was necessary to buy a car for his wife, so that she would have more convenience and prestige when conducting her business.
Resolved, he made up his mind to visit the 4S store first thing the next morning.
After dinner, the couple bid farewell to Loreen and took a taxi home together.
The taxi’s radio was discussing the Shangri-La Sky Garden being completely booked out.
The host was astonished, noting that it was the first time in history that Shangri-La had made such an exception. He expressed curiosity about who could wield such influence.
The taxi driver chimed in, “I reckon the person who booked the Sky Garden must be the ridiculously wealthy person featured in that viral TikTok video!”
Charlie remained silent, though he felt a bit surprised. It appeared that news about the Sky Garden being booked by someone had created quite a buzz throughout Aurous Hill!
That night, the story continued to spread and soon everyone in the city was aware of it!
Everyone knew that the Shangri-La Hotel operated on a membership basis, and only senior members had access to the Sky Garden! As for booking the venue, diamond members didn’t even qualify!
Thus, who managed to book the Sky Garden became a topic of great intrigue!
Some speculated the booker was the wealthy individual who had gained national popularity on TikTok,
Others suggested it was a wealthy overseas client,
Some even claimed the booker had a mysterious identity and was planning a grand, romantic wedding…
Naturally, the third rumor seemed most believable!
This sparked renewed excitement in the market!
After hearing this, countless women felt envious and jealous.
Everyone speculated on who the lucky woman could be, to whom someone would spend millions overnight to book the entire Sky Garden as a declaration of love!
Many people eagerly anticipated that day, wanting to be there to witness it!
To maintain his anonymity, Charlie specifically instructed Isaac Cameron to make special arrangements for the entire Sky Garden. Meanwhile, he looked forward to the arrival of their wedding anniversary!
He wanted to give Claire a magnificent wedding celebration on that special day!
The next morning, Charlie set out early to visit the 4S store. He held a bank card worth 10 billion in his hand, which he hadn’t used much until now.
This time, he planned to buy Claire a luxury car worthy of display.
He initially considered purchasing a Rolls-Royce outright.
However, after some thought, he worried it would be difficult to explain such a lavish vehicle to her. Moreover, Claire had always favorably preferred a low profile. Even if he owned such an expensive car, she would likely hesitate to drive it.
So he decided to opt for a business car worth around 500,000 dollars, something prestigious but not overly ostentatious and practical enough that he wouldn’t feel terrible if it got scratched or bumped.
With that in mind, he decided to consider getting Claire an Audi A6. Businesspeople commonly drove A6 vehicles as they were quite reputable. Furthermore, the A6 was an extended executive model, making it suitable for Claire to use.
He arrived at the Audi 4S store, parked his electric bike out front, and walked inside.
As a few sales associates saw a customer enter, two immediately prepared to greet him.
However, a woman behind them rushed to say, “Oh, this person came on an electric bike. I bet he’s just here to use the air conditioning or WiFi. Ignore him.”
Upon hearing he arrived on an electric bike, their interest quickly waned.
Given the recent hot weather, many less affluent individuals would come in early just to enjoy the cool air and sometimes they shamelessly sat in the display cars, forcing security to intervene. This behavior often frustrated the sales staff.
Charlie, riding an electric bike and dressed in casual attire, blended in and wasn’t someone who seemed capable of purchasing an Audi.
Disregarding their judgment, Charlie made his way directly to the display area of the A6 sedan, noticing the prices ranged from 300,000 to over 600,000. The model priced over 600,000 was the top configuration of the A6, the extended executive version.
To be honest, the car looked exceptional!
The price of over 600,000 dollars wasn’t unreasonable, Claire should be able to accept it. He then stated, “Do you have a new model of the top-end A6? I’d like to take it home right now!”
The sales associates looked at him as if he were joking, and one scoffed, “Did you miss a zero? Have you seen the price?”
Charlie furrowed his brow, responding, “Six hundred and eighteen thousand dollars. I saw it clearly.”
The salesperson sneered, “So you saw it and are still shouting? Do you really think you can afford it? When it comes time to pay, with so many eyes on you, you’ll be embarrassed!”
Coldly, Charlie retorted, “Are you feeling ill? Did you forget your medication this morning? Would you like me to call an ambulance for you?”
The man huffed dismissively, “Save it. Don’t try to show off to me here, I can easily have security escort you out. A poor guy like you, leeching off air conditioning and WiFi, still trying to act important?”
