The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 22
Everyone returned to the banquet hall and the Lady took Claire’s hand, leading her to the stage. She spoke in a warm tone, “I truly apologize for what happened earlier. I was confused and made a mistake. In truth, this success is due to Claire’s outstanding efforts. She is a remarkable descendant of the Wilson family, and her dedication was crucial in securing this cooperation between the Wilson family and Emgrand.”
Doris Young, standing beside her, scoffed and interrupted, “Allow me to clarify. For this collaboration, Miss Claire not only put in substantial effort, but she also brought it to fruition entirely on her own. Other individuals had nothing to do with it.”
Though her words were blunt, it was a common occurrence for those familiar with Doris’s demeanor. Given Emgrand’s stature, no one would dare to retaliate, even if Doris publicly insulted Lady Wilson.
Lady Wilson quickly nodded and affirmed, “Vice President Young is correct. All the credit belongs to Claire. Moving forward, Claire will be the director of our Wilson family! She will oversee the collaboration between the Wilson family and the Emgrand Group!”
Doris Young smiled, shaking Claire’s hand as she said, “I look forward to a successful partnership in the future.”
Claire, still somewhat bewildered, could only nod in response.
The audience erupted in applause, their eyes filled with admiration for Claire. Who is this woman? The Emgrand Group holds her in such high regard!
Claire, herself perplexed, turned to Charlie. The scene mirrored what Charlie had just described—Lady Wilson had returned the director position that should have been hers.
By the end of the banquet, Claire remained in a daze as she returned home.
Reflecting on Charlie’s earlier words, she felt increasingly confused. Over the past few days, Charlie seemed to have changed. There were many aspects of him that she could not grasp, as if he were surrounded by a veil of mystery.
That night, Claire gained notoriety in Aurous Hill! Everyone recognized that the Wilson family had an exceptional younger generation, and the Emgrand Group was ready to support her wholeheartedly! It appeared that with her, the revival of the Wilson family was imminent.
The following morning, Claire woke up early and excitedly headed to the office. Today marked her first day as director, and she was determined to give her all.
Meanwhile, Charlie started his usual housework after getting out of bed.
Once he finished cleaning and was about to head to the market to buy groceries for lunch, he received an urgent call from his mother-in-law, Elaine.
Upon answering, Elaine’s frantic voice came through, “Charlie, you need to get to Pinnacle Ave within ten minutes or I will not forgive you when I get home!”
She hung up shortly after.
Charlie, puzzled, noted that his mother-in-law had been untraceable since early morning. Her sudden call seemed urgent.
Despite his irritation toward Elaine, he knew he couldn’t ignore her request. He hurriedly grabbed his things and took a taxi to Pinnacle Ave.
As soon as he arrived, he noticed a group of elderly men and women gathered in front of a shut-down insurance company.
Elaine stood at the forefront, holding a banner and angrily shouting, “Axel is a fraudulent platform! We demand our rights and the return of my hard-earned money!”
Charlie rushed forward and asked, “Mom, what’s going on? Why did you call me here?”
The condemnatory slogans echoed around him, and the shouts of the crowd made his ears ring.
Elaine pulled Charlie into the crowd and instructed, “Take my place and start shouting this slogan for me. I’ve been at it all morning, and my throat is sore.”
Charlie, not fully understanding the situation, reluctantly joined the elderly protesters while occasionally asking a nearby uncle for clarification. He soon grasped that Axel Insurance Company had been marketing insurance products with outrageously high returns.
These uncles and aunts had invested their savings into these products, lured in by the promise of substantial returns. Now, as the dividend distribution period approached, they discovered the company had shut its doors, with only a few employees left to offer vague excuses.
Realizing the scam, the elderly crowd felt deceived and enraged.
No wonder Elaine had insisted on rushing him over to help her demand justice.
“Mom, how much did you spend on insurance?” Charlie questioned, a concerned frown creasing his forehead.
Elaine replied anxiously, “They promised high dividends, and in my excitement, I invested all our family savings into their products…”
Charlie was taken aback, “What? You invested all our family’s money in financial insurance?!”
Elaine snapped back, annoyed, “Oh, you think you can criticize? You’re making this worse for me!”
She continued her tirade, saying, “If you had any ambition, I wouldn’t feel the need to turn to their insurance products. If I can’t rely on them for my retirement, what hope do I have in you, who’s done nothing useful?”
He couldn’t bear the fact that not only did he fail to support the family, but he also had to deal with this fiasco.
Then, she commanded, “You’re going to keep shouting slogans for me here. Not a moment of silence!”
Left with no choice, Charlie nodded, “Alright, Mom.”
Just then, a few aunts approached, sizing Charlie up. One asked Elaine, “Elaine, is this your son-in-law?”
They looked at Charlie’s attire, chuckling, “Why does he look so shabby? He can’t hold a candle to my son-in-law.”
Another chimed in, “Yes, his clothes are terrible, not nice at all!”
Their remarks were harsh and unkind.
Charlie wasn’t bothered by their disdain, after all, they were merely elderly women mourning their lost savings. There was no need to engage with them.
Elaine felt enraged as she scrutinized Charlie. Her dislike for him grew stronger, and she exclaimed, “Just watch! I’ll have my daughter divorce him soon and find a better son-in-law!”
Charlie felt a quiet laugh rise within him. A better son-in-law? Not even the wealthiest heirs in Aurous Hill could compare to him.
Elaine’s anxiety heightened as she worried about her investments. With Charlie being of little use, she knew she needed someone competent to help recover her lost funds.
Unfortunately, the family of Wendell Jones, who had been pursuing her daughter, was now bankrupt. Otherwise, she might have sought his assistance!
Then a thought struck her!
Elaine recalled Kevin, Gerald White’s brother, whom she had met at the family banquet the previous day. He had seemed quite interested in her daughter.
While the White family wasn’t as affluent as the Jones family, they were still significant. If she could reach out to him, he might be able to help.
Coincidentally, Kevin had given her his business card the day before. Without hesitation, she pulled out her phone and dialed Kevin’s number.
