Claire’s declaration left the entire Wilson family in shock!Everyone believed Claire had lost her mind!
This wasn’t the time for bravado! Showing off now would lead to nothing but failure.
The Emgrand Group is the largest company in Aurous Hill. There’s no way they’d regard the Wilson family with any respect. No matter who went to negotiate, the outcome would remain unchanged!
Harold couldn’t restrain a mocking laugh, saying, “Claire, do you really think you can secure a contract with the Emgrand Group?”
Wendy, Harold’s sister and Claire’s cousin, also joined in the mockery, saying, “Sister Claire, look at your position compared to the Emgrand Group’s. Don’t embarrass the Wilson family with such reckless negotiations!”
Someone chimed in, “Exactly! If she gets thrown out of the Emgrand Group, the Wilson family will be a laughingstock in Aurous Hill!”
At these words, Claire felt her cheeks burn as shame and anger washed over her.
Since marrying Charlie, her standing in the family had plummeted, she was losing significance in the family and found herself almost alienated. Even her parents had begun to mock her.
She thought that if she could successfully negotiate this project with the Emgrand Group, her place in the family would be secure.
More importantly, she wanted her parents to stand with pride again. But faced with ridicule from so many, she felt her resolve wavering.
She shot Charlie a frustrated glare, wishing she hadn’t heeded his prompting. If only she had known better, she wouldn’t have taken the initiative…
Lady Wilson was infuriated upon hearing everyone’s remarks.
After asking multiple times for someone to take on the task with no volunteers, now that Claire had bravely stepped up, the others were dousing her confidence!
Though Lady Wilson had always harbored a dislike for Claire, she recognized that Claire was at least willing to shoulder some of the burden, unlike others who only sought to create chaos for themselves!
Especially Harold, her most beloved grandson, who had truly disappointed her!
Because of this, Lady Wilson’s attitude towards Claire began to shift. She promptly stated, “If no one else is brave enough to take this on, stop with the negativity! Let Claire handle the negotiations with the Emgrand Group this time!”
Claire, though anxious, responded resolutely, “Don’t worry, Grandma, I will give it my all.”
At that moment, Harold sneered, “What would be the point of giving it your all? If you ultimately fail, you’ll only shame the family!”
Charlie interjected with a smirk, “Harold, what is your aim in trash-talking Claire? Do you really think the Wilson family isn’t fit to partner with the Emgrand Group?”
Harold was taken aback that Charlie, whom he dismissed as worthless, would dare to speak up at this family gathering, especially making such bold claims.
Noticing that Lady Wilson seemed a bit angry, Harold quickly clarified, “That’s not what I meant. I just doubt Claire’s ability to negotiate this cooperation!”
Charlie chuckled and challenged him, “What if Claire successfully negotiates a deal? Should we make a bet?”
Harold sneered, “Sure, let’s bet! I’m not afraid of you. What are the terms?”
Charlie replied, “If Claire secures the contract, you will kneel before the entire family and apologize to me three times, admitting you were wrong. If she fails, I will kneel to you three times and admit I was wrong. How does that sound?”
“Hahaha!” Harold burst into laughter, “You really are pathetic, and now you’re challenging your own demise! Fine, I’ll take that bet!”
Charlie nodded with satisfaction, saying, “The entire family will witness this. Whoever backs out will face dire consequences!”
Charlie emphasized “dire consequences” deliberately, wary that Harold might try to back out later.
Now, Harold would be too scared to backtrack, if he did, he would be cursing his own grandmother, Lady Wilson, to her doom! She would certainly not let him off the hook for that!
“Okay!” Harold, unaware that Charlie had set a trap for him, believed he was sure to win.
He laughed and added, “The whole family is here as witnesses, I’m looking forward to witnessing your surrender!”
Claire felt apprehensive and exchanged glances with him, hoping he might reconsider, but to her dismay, he ignored her plea.
Lady Wilson was indifferent to such bets. Her sole concern was whether they could secure a partnership with the Emgrand Group. If they succeeded, she wouldn’t care if it meant Harold kneeling before Charlie or even calling him “Dad.”
So she declared, “That concludes today’s meeting. Claire, you have three days to secure that contract. Dismissed!”
As soon as they returned home, Claire’s in-laws immediately pounced on her and Charlie.
Her mother-in-law, Elaine, exclaimed in frustration, “Claire, are you out of your mind? How could you listen to Charlie, a total failure, and jump into this job without thinking it through!”
Her father-in-law, Jacob, scolded Charlie, saying, “Charlie, Charlie, you’re a complete loser and you’ve really let my daughter down!”
Then, he continued angrily, “If Claire fails to negotiate with the Emgrand Group, she’ll definitely be ostracized by the family. And you, the useless one, will have to kneel and apologize to Harold in front of everyone. You better not embarrass me when that happens!”
Charlie responded earnestly, “Dad, Mom, as long as Claire can secure this contract, everything will fall into place.”
“Talk, talk, talk! All you do is talk nonsense!”
Her father-in-law scolded, “Do you understand how powerful the Emgrand Group is? They’d never take the Wilson family seriously!”
Charlie smiled confidently and said, “Maybe they will take us seriously. I believe Claire will certainly succeed and secure that contract.”
The mother-in-law sneered, “What do you know? Do you think you’re running the Emgrand Group? You’re worthless, yet you keep spouting off like this!”
