The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 61

Hearing the voice, Charlie frowned and looked up. He saw a young man dressed in a white linen black suit, with black cloth shoes and an array of bracelets adorning his arms, striding confidently towards him.

Even though it was broad daylight, the young man wore a pair of antique gold-rimmed glasses featuring two round black lenses, the kind favored by the trendsetters at the late Warriors.

Trailing behind him were four or five bodyguards and compared to the young man’s showy demeanor, the bodyguards appeared menacing, causing those around to quickly step aside to avoid any trouble.

“Oh, it’s Young Mr. Quinton!”

The boss’s face instantly brightened at the sight of the young man and flattering words poured from his mouth like water. “Young Mr. Quinton, why didn’t you let me know in advance that you were coming today? I could have met you at the street corner…”

“Enough with the nonsense, I’m just here to take a look today.” The young man waved his hand impatiently.

He strode forward, glanced at the stone in Charlie’s hand and then looked up at the boss. “Zachary, wrap this stone up for me! My father’s desk needs a paperweight and this would be perfect!”

“This…” The green-eyed boss let out a dry laugh, glancing at Charlie hesitantly. “Graham, that’s unfortunate! This brother has already bought the stone! Honestly, it’s quite ordinary has no real value aside from being a paperweight. I have much better items set aside for you; why settle for something so trivial when I have exquisite pieces worthy of your status?”

Charlie then realized that the boss’s name was Zachary and that he seemed to know the young man quite well.

However, Charlie was genuinely amazed at Zachary’s way with words.

He had an uncanny ability to say what he wanted to say to people and equally what he wanted to say to spirits.

Zachary quickly fished out a hardened plastic jade horse, eagerly exclaiming, “Graham, this is favored by the former imperial concubine! Look, this jade is crystal clear. Good jade belongs with a deserving owner. Let’s not overstate it, just for your generous heart, I’ll offer it to you for the same price you purchased the chicken cup yesterday nine thousand dollars!”

Charlie was taken aback. The same fake chicken cup? He had bought it for three hundred dollars and snagged a bargain, but little did he know that Graham would spend nine thousand for it.

“Stop blabbering and just get out of here!” Young Mr. Quinton snapped impatiently, kicking Zachary aside with arrogance. “I want this stone. If you give it to me, I’ll pay you twenty thousand!”

At the sound of twenty thousand, Zachary’s eyes lit up. He turned to Charlie and said, “Brother, how about letting Mr. Quinton take it?”

Charlie frowned and replied coldly, “I bought this. I’m not interested in handing it over to anyone else.”

“Who asked you for your approval? You haven’t even paid for it yet! Whoever pays the money gets to buy it!” Mr. Quinton shot back impatiently, pulling out a wallet and tossing a thick stack of red bills at Zachary’s face.

“No need to change; I’ll take the twenty thousand.”

Zachary’s eyes sparkled, quickly gathering the banknotes and turning to Charlie with a smile. “Brother, I have an inkstone paperweight from Emperor Kangxi at home—it’s a better option!”

Charlie smiled back and said, “Zachary, I don’t need a rundown of your items, right? I purchased this paperweight first, and I’m not interested in selling it to anyone else.”

Seeing Charlie’s refusal, Zachary was at a loss.

After all, in the world of antiques, the rule is first come, first served. If Zachary neglected this rule, his reputation in this antique street would be ruined once the word got out.

With no other alternative, Zachary turned back to Mr. Quinton and pleaded, “Mr. Quinton, this paperweight really isn’t remarkable. I have a much better one at my place…”

Before he could finish, Mr. Quinton kicked him hard at the waist, scolding him, “Are you feeling brave? I’ve purchased several things from you, and now you’re being stubborn, siding with this nobody?”

Zachary fell to the ground, clutching his waist and groaning, complaining, “Mr. Quinton, he won’t part with it; I can’t do anything about it.”

As he spoke, he attempted to signal Charlie, hoping he would relent.

Looking at Charlie’s attire and demeanor, it was clear that he came from a humble background, lacking wealth or influence.

In contrast, Mr. Quinton was a well-known figure in the cultural and artistic circles, one who had never known financial hardship.

Zachary, wanting to avoid offending Graham or breaching etiquette, could only urge Charlie with his eyes.

Charlie caught on to Zachary’s hint but chose to ignore it, responding calmly, “No.”

Zachary was truly helpless, so he merely sat back and groaned, trying to avoid further ire from Mr. Quinton.

“Look at how useless you are!”

Graham scolded him, raising his voice. He glanced at Charlie with a condescending expression and said, “You bought it for three hundred dollars. I’ll give you thirty thousand for it; hand it over!”

The crowd gasped, their eyes filled with envy as they looked at Charlie.

The price of an item bought for three hundred dollars had surged a hundred times over before it even warmed up. Clearly, this was a lucrative deal!

As for that piece of stone, anyone with knowledge could tell it was merely a common rock found on the riverbank. There were countless stones like it; it hardly warranted calling it a paperweight from an important dynasty!

Jacob felt excitement bubble within him. After all, he would make more than two thousand dollars from this deal. Not only would he recover from yesterday’s loss, but he could also pocket a little profit.

Charlie looked up, smiled at Mr. Quinton, and stated, “I’ve already said I won’t sell it. Even if you offer me three hundred thousand dollars, my answer remains unchanged.”

“You!”

Mr. Quinton’s expression darkened in an instant, and a fierce glare flashed in his eyes.

The crowd surrounding them fell silent, caught off guard by Charlie’s outright refusal. Wasn’t this humiliating for him?

“You country bumpkin! You think you can challenge me?” Mr. Quinton sneered maliciously. “Why not ask around? Is there anything in this antique street that I can’t acquire?”

“You will hand it over today, whether you want to or not!”

After finishing his statement, Mr. Quinton waved his hand, and his bodyguards quickly surrounded Charlie.

The onlookers gasped in shock.

Even Jacob found himself stunned.

The Quinton family in Aurous Hill City?

They were a wealthy and formidable family, far surpassing even Gerald White’s family!

No wonder Young Mr. Quinton casually spent nine thousand on a fake celadon cup; he didn’t care about the money. It was all just for kicks!

As several bodyguards circled Charlie, their intimidating presence loomed large.

Jacob, wary of the escalating situation, quickly signaled Charlie to surrender the stone to Young Mr. Quinton.

Charlie showed no signs of concern, glancing at the bodyguards around him, and firmly declared, “I’ll say it again: I won’t sell! If you think you can use your influence to take what’s mine, just know that nobody can take my belongings— not even the king of heaven!”

“What’s wrong with me taking it by force?” Mr. Quinton retorted arrogantly, lifting his chin defiantly. “Let me make it clear: I am the king of heaven! You, a country bumpkin, want to challenge me? You’re simply asking for trouble!”
