The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 63
Seeing Mr. Quinton being obstinate, Charlie shook his head and sneered in contempt. “You can’t even distinguish between a gourd and a jade plug? Have you never heard the old saying, ‘Gold and jade in the nine orifices, the dead are immortal’?”
“What gold and jade? Dead people?” Mr. Quinton looked confused.
Charlie shook his head as if dealing with a “hopeless case.” “You don’t know this? Surely you’ve heard of nine-aperture jade?”
“What nine-aperture jade?” Mr. Quinton stared at Charlie, baffled.
Although Mr. Quinton had an interest in antiques, he lacked the dedication to truly understand them. He simply bought whatever others deemed valuable to show off.
“Foolish!”
Charlie scoffed, “Nine-orifice jade is the jade plug used by the deceased to seal their nine orifices. There are seven in the ears, nose, mouth and eyes, with the reproductive and excretion orifices adding up to a total of nine.”
“Dead people!!” Mr. Quinton’s mouth dropped open, his eyes wide with disbelief. He looked at the jade hanging around his neck, his skin prickling with sudden dread. This came from a dead person?
Charlie said mockingly, “It appears you really don’t understand. This piece in your hand was used by the deceased to block the excretion hole, essentially the jar door. You actually wear it around your neck. Don’t you think it’s disgusting?”
Mr. Quinton could no longer respond. He stared at the jade gourd in his hand, overwhelmed by a wave of nausea.
This jade gourd was actually used in such a way!
And he had mistaken it for a good luck charm, wearing it around his neck for three years…
What was particularly infuriating was that because he liked it so much, he often picked it up with his mouth to play with it…
Wasn’t that like indirectly consuming the filth of the ancients?
“Ugh!”
Mr. Quinton couldn’t hold it in any longer and doubled over, retching.
The crowd, which had been eagerly watching moments ago, now looked at him with scorn.
Some even took pleasure in his misfortune, mocking Mr. Quinton for being oblivious and wasting a lot of money on such an ill-fated trinket.
Charlie coldly added, “Additionally, this jade piece has soaked up corpse chi for a long time and absorbed enough malevolent energy. It is no longer a good luck charm, but rather a very ominous object! If you continue to wear it, you’ll undoubtedly face dire consequences within a year.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the people surrounding Mr. Quinton hurriedly stepped back, afraid of being tainted by the evil energy clinging to him.
Zachary, who stood near Mr. Quinton, also scrambled to the edge.
Although he typically made a living by petty scams, he had dealt with local crooks and realized that Charlie’s words weren’t baseless!
Mr. Quinton, also shaken, looked up at Charlie in a dazed manner.
Charlie’s expression was cold and he scoffed, “Have you had a streak of bad luck this year? Maybe a car accident or something?”
Mr. Quinton stared at Charlie, completely stunned. He had, in fact, been unlucky this year. He’d experienced a car accident at the beginning of the year. If he hadn’t been in a crash-resistant Hummer that day, he might have been killed.
The driver had died on the spot and he had broken two ribs, spending half a month in the hospital before he could return home.
Mr. Quinton was sweating profusely now. He quickly ripped the jade piece from his neck and threw it away.
The crowd retreated rapidly, not wanting to be associated with his predicament.
Seeing Mr. Quinton’s guilty expression, Charlie felt a twinge of satisfaction. If he hadn’t intervened today, Mr. Quinton would have likely met his end before the year’s end.
“Who are you?” Mr. Quinton gritted his teeth and glared at Charlie.
This person knew far too much. Could he be sent by his enemies?
“I’m someone you can’t afford to provoke.” Charlie replied coldly before turning to leave.
Mr. Quinton saw Charlie attempting to escape and bellowed, “Catch him! If he dares to come at me, that kid must have someone backing him! Can’t afford to provoke? Ha! In all of Aurous Hill City, there’s no one I cannot handle! Capture him, break his legs and find out who dares to cause trouble for my Quinton family.”
He convinced himself that Charlie was sent by a business rival, or else how could he know all the details of his car accident?
Several bodyguards swiftly moved in, rushing to block Charlie’s way.
The other two bodyguards approached Jacob, reaching out to seize him forcefully.
Jacob was terrified. He never imagined he would get into such trouble simply by going out to buy antiques.
Just as one bodyguard was about to grab Jacob, Charlie’s expression hardened. He kicked aside a strongman standing in his way and raced toward Jacob, punching the bodyguard squarely in the face.
“Bang!”
The bodyguard was about to take hold of Jacob when Charlie’s punch connected, causing him to bleed from his nose and stagger backward, covering his face.
When another bodyguard witnessed Charlie springing into action, he swiftly pulled out an electric baton and swung it violently at Charlie.
“Ah!” Jacob screamed in fear, “Charlie, move!”
Before he could finish, Charlie effortlessly dodged the incoming strike and seized the bodyguard’s left wrist, applying just enough force.
“Bang!”
The bodyguard with the electric baton was slammed to the ground before he could react, grimacing in pain and unable to rise.
Jacob was speechless, nearly failing to recognize the young man standing in front of him as his son-in-law.
How could he be so skilled?
Charlie bent down, retrieved the electric baton from the ground, weighed it in his hand, and declared, “Who’s next? Let’s take them all on at once.”
The crowd fell silent, their eyes locked onto Charlie.
Zachary was equally astonished, staring wide-eyed at Charlie and muttering, “Brother, you’re incredible!”
He was grateful he hadn’t angered Charlie earlier otherwise, he might have been felled by that overhand blow.
Jacob snapped back to reality and exclaimed in amazement, “Charlie, where did you learn that martial arts?”
“This…” Charlie smiled and replied, “Dad, when Claire was at work, I often stayed home out of boredom to watch TV. There’s a fighting show that airs every morning I picked it up from there.”
In reality, Charlie had been practicing Wing Chun, boxing, and wrestleing since he was a child, mastering its most authentic forms. After all, the famous Wen was a descendant of the Wade family and the greatest of these arts!
However, to conceal his identity, he naturally couldn’t divulge this to his father-in-law.
Moreover, what surprised Charlie even more was that he felt his strength had significantly increased!
His combat prowess had multiplied compared to his usual self.
It seemed this was the effect of the “Apocalyptic Book.”
The pebbles filled with reiki he had just handled had entered his body, instantly enhancing his overall physical condition!
The crowd gasped.
Such formidable skills surpassed even the martial arts masters at the Aurous Hill City martial arts hall, and he had learned them just by watching TV!
This self-taught talent was astonishing!
“I learned it from TV!” Zachary’s eyes widened in disbelief. A skill so incredible, obtained from watching television? He quickly beamed at Charlie in admiration, “Brother, which channel did you watch? I want to learn, too.”
Charlie glanced at Zachary and replied casually, “CCTV Sports Channel, quack!”
