The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 96
Under the admiring gazes of everyone, Charlie departed calmly.
During the ride home with Jasmine, she couldn’t help but steal glances at him.
At that moment, Charlie seemed to have returned to his ordinary self, with no trace of any remarkable cultivation remaining.
This shift surprised her and felt somewhat strange.
Just moments ago, Charlie had radiated an aura of superiority that commanded both admiration and fear.
But now, that presence had vanished and at first glance, he appeared no different from anyone else on the street.
She wondered if he had intentionally subdued himself or if it was merely an illusion.
Unable to hold back, Jasmine inquired, “Charlie, was that thunder… actually summoned by you?”
Charlie met her gaze and offered a subtle smile.
“Take a guess. Would you believe me if I said it was just a coincidence?”
Jasmine’s mind flashed back to the moment of the thunder’s summoning.
In the brilliant flash of lightning, he stood confidently amid it all, exuding an extraordinary charm.
If he were indeed that kind of person, every woman would surely be drawn to him.
Feeling a stir of emotions, Jasmine quickly shook her head.
What a ridiculous thought!
Even the world’s leading physicists cannot control thunder and lightning.
If Charlie could summon thunder, then how could he still be the timid son-in-law he currently is?
Could it be that the thunder was simply a happenstance?
…
When Charlie reached his home, he heard his mother-in-law Elaine’s voice echoing from inside.
“I told you to find a capable husband long ago, but you wouldn’t listen! Look at how competent Tucker Lifen’s son-in-law is. He gifted her a spacious four-bedroom apartment! Over 180 square meters! How much room is that? And here we are living in just 120 square meters, feeling so cramped!”
After that, Elaine, visibly upset, continued, “Other sons-in-law can actually be relied upon, but the one you married, Charlie, is useless. If I depend on him, I fear I’ll never live in a bigger house in my lifetime!”
Claire’s discontented voice replied, “Mom, why do you have to envy others? Besides, I’ve just been promoted to director. If I save money for a few more years, we might be able to afford a new house.”
Elaine, still angry, retorted, “Wait a few more years? By then, it will be too late! Ever since you married Charlie, our family’s living standards have plummeted. We used to live in the Wilson family villa, but now? We can barely manage in this rundown place. All my friends live better lives than I do!”
Claire said, “Mom, what’s the point of constantly comparing ourselves?”
“It’s frustrating!” Elaine snapped. “Because I can’t compete with others, it feels especially demoralizing!”
Charlie shook his head helplessly at this point, opened the door and stepped inside.
Elaine noticed Charlie’s return, scoffed coldly and said, “Oh, so you do know to come back? Are you going to cook? We’re all starving!”
With a smile, Charlie replied, “Mom, I’ll start cooking right now.”
With that, he headed straight to the kitchen.
Charlie was well aware of Elaine’s nature. She was superficial and judgmental, feeling uncomfortable seeing others succeed.
If she found out that Tucker White was going to gift him a villa as an apology, she would immediately try to ingratiate herself with him.
However, due to Elaine’s attitude, he decided not to mention the house to her just yet.
As Charlie busied himself in the kitchen, Claire approached him and quietly said, “Don’t let Mom’s words affect you. She’s just being vain.”
Charlie pretended to be oblivious, saying, “What did Mom say? I didn’t hear a thing.”
“Just act like you didn’t hear.” Claire teased, poking him playfully on the forehead.
Charlie gently held her hand.
Claire’s cheeks flushed and she quickly glanced towards the kitchen, trying to pull her hand away.
But Charlie kept his grip and noticed she was wearing the bracelet he had crafted. He smiled and asked, “Does this bracelet really work when worn?”
“Ah?” Claire snapped back to reality, nodded and said, “You know, it truly does. Since I started wearing it, I feel rejuvenated, much more comfortable. What’s it made of? Why is it so effective?”
Charlie smiled and replied, “It’s just made from special pearls.”
The HolyPearl of the Ocean on Claire’s wrist made her skin appear as delicate as fresh snow and as tender as new lotus roots.
Her smooth, warm hand felt like a piece of elegant jade in Charlie’s grasp, and he didn’t want to release it.
Claire noticed this too and promptly blushed, pulling her hand back and giving him an admonishing glare.
Charlie chuckled and asked, “So, do you want to change houses too?”
“Of course! Who wouldn’t want to live in a new house? My mom has been grumbling ever since we moved out of the villa about how small and shabby this place is…”
Claire sighed, then caught herself and added, “But the housing prices are just too high now. We don’t have that much money, so I suppose we should forget it.”
Just then, Claire had a sudden thought and blurted out, “Oh, we could go check out some real estate and see how much more it would cost to get a bigger house. If the price difference isn’t too steep, maybe we can think about trading up.”
Before Charlie could respond, Claire’s excitement took over, “It’s decided then! Tomorrow is the weekend, let’s go look at some real estate!”
Noticing how invested she was in this idea, Charlie nodded and said, “If you’re eager to see it, I’ll go with you.”
Claire began researching real estate on her phone and set her sights on the New District, known for its better environment.
Just then, a knock on the door interrupted them. After dinner, a courier delivered a small package to Charlie, saying, “This is a local express for you, please sign here.”
After signing, Charlie opened the package to discover a house key along with several golden cards labeled “Thompson First Villa A05.”
At that moment, Charlie received a call from Zeke White, the head of the White family. He spoke respectfully, saying, “Mr. Wade, have you received the key and room card? Thompson Villa is the most prestigious real estate project developed by Thompson Company in Aurous Hill. The A05 I provided is the largest villa available. Not including the courtyard, it has more than 1,000 square meters of usable space. Please accept it!”
Charlie was familiar with Thompson, having heard of their development of villas and high-rise residential areas in Aurous Hill, distinctly the height of luxury real estate in the area.
A villa like this typically costs over 100 million. It seemed Zeke White was indeed quite generous.
Smiling lightly, Charlie replied, “You’re quite considerate.”
Zeke White responded jubilantly, “No, no! It is an honor for the White family to serve Master Wade!”
After returning to the room, Charlie intentionally asked Claire, “Wife, how do you feel about the house at Thompson First?”
“Thompson First?” Claire exclaimed. “How could we afford a house there! Even the price of standard high-rise apartments is double compared to outside! But I must admit, the properties are truly the finest in Aurous Hill!”
With a slight smile, Charlie said, “We can go and take a look tomorrow, then decide if we want to buy it.”
Claire quickly waved her hand and replied, “Let’s not. We should be practical and look for regular houses.”
Charlie grinned and said, “Honestly, I have a friend in Thompson First who mentioned he could help with internal pricing. We could go check it out first.”
