The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 47

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 47

When Charlie’s in-laws heard that he would be buying them a better car the next day, their faces lit up with smiles.

However, the father-in-law was blissfully unaware that he was about to miss out on a premium BMW 760.

Claire felt a little anxious. After washing up and returning to their room, she quietly asked Charlie, “Do you still have enough money to buy a car? I have a bit of my own savings, you can use that for tomorrow’s purchase!”

Charlie quickly waved her off, saying, “No need! I still have some funds, it’s enough.”

Claire felt guilty and said, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t expect my parents to react this way…”

Charlie smiled at her, reassuringly, “What are you talking about? Your parents are also my parents now. We’re family and it’s only right to show them respect.”

As he spoke, Charlie lay down on his small mat, smiling as he added, “Don’t worry, I’ll get another one tomorrow morning!”

Claire said gratefully, “Charlie, thank you!”

Charlie chuckled, “Why do you need to be so formal with me, my wife?”

Blushing, Claire asked, “Aren’t you going to be cold sleeping on the floor tonight?”

Charlie replied casually, “No, not at all. I’m perfectly fine!”

Claire suddenly shot back, annoyed, “If you’re not cold, then just go to sleep! You stubborn man!”

She almost felt tempted to let him sleep on the bed, but his stubbornness got on her nerves…

Charlie suddenly realized he might have overlooked something…

So he quickly exclaimed, “Oh dear, the floor is freezing! I’m really shivering here!”

Claire huffed, “If you’re cold, then get under a blanket!”

“Oh…” Charlie fell into a pout, feeling disheartened. After a while, he reluctantly complained, “Wife, it seems to be getting colder. I really feel cold!”

Claire ignored him, kicked off a blanket and said irritably, “How cold can it be on a summer night? If you’re still cold, I’ll find you a down jacket!”

Charlie felt hopeless. It appeared his wife was determined to keep him off the bed tonight!

The next morning, Claire prepared to leave for work early.

Charlie made breakfast for her, handed her the keys to the BMW and said, “Drive it to the office today.”

Claire hesitated, saying, “Is it really okay for me to drive the car you bought for me to work?”

Charlie reassured her, “What’s inappropriate about that? You’re my wife and the car is intended for you, not just for me.”

Claire nodded gently, feeling grateful as she said, “Thank you!”

With that, she took the keys to the BMW.

Meanwhile, her father chimed in enviously, “Charlie, you said you would buy me a car too! Don’t forget!”

“I haven’t forgotten!” Charlie said quickly. “Just wait, I’ll make sure to buy one for you. Just keep an eye out for the new car when it arrives at home!”

The father-in-law beamed, replying, “Then I’ll wait! And remember, BMW 530! Don’t get the wrong one!”

Charlie laughed and nodded. “Don’t worry, Dad I’ll buy you a BMW 530 today!”

With that, he went downstairs with Claire and pulled his electric scooter out of the trunk of the BMW 760.

Claire drove off in the BMW 760 while Charlie rode his scooter to the BMW dealership.

As he approached the dealership, he passed the Audi store, where a salesperson first spotted him.

“Wow, look! That guy who bought a BMW 760 is back and he’s on an electric scooter!” The salesperson exclaimed.

“I can’t let him slip away this time, I’m going to stop him and sell him a top-tier Audi A8!” Another voiced.

“Right on!”

Suddenly, a swarm of Audi salespeople rushed out to surround him.

“Sir! Come check out our latest model, the top-of-the-line Audi A8!”

“Sir! Our A8 is incredibly powerful, equipped with a W12 engine that outperforms the V12 in your BMW 760!”

Curious, Charlie asked, “Is it really that powerful?”

“Absolutely!” an eager salesperson jumped in. “Let me explain, our W12 engine can deactivate half its cylinders, running on 6 cylinders for better fuel efficiency!”

Charlie scoffed, “Are you serious? Why Would I buy a 12-cylinder car to deactivate 6 cylinders for fuel economy? Why not just buy a 6-cylinder car then?”

“Uh…um…well…”

The salesperson suddenly realized he had misspoken and turned red.

Charlie smirked at them, saying, “I know what you’re thinking. You were upset when I purchased the BMW 760 yesterday and are trying to win me over today, right?”

The others nodded hurriedly.

Charlie replied, “Well, it’s too late! You ignored me yesterday and today I’ll make sure you regret it!”

As he finished, Charlie pressed the horn on his scooter.

“Ding…”

“Step aside! I’m heading to the BMW dealership to buy a car!”

At that moment, a BMW salesperson ran out, angrily shouting, “What do you think you’re doing, you Audi folks? Are you trying to steal our customers? Can’t you see our customer isn’t interested in you at all? If you keep crowding him, I’ll have the media expose you!”

The Audi team felt embarrassed and scattered away in shame.

The manager of the BMW dealership personally approached Charlie, respectfully asking, “Mr. Wade, do you still want to purchase a car today?”

Charlie nodded and responded, “Yes, do you have a BMW 530 in stock? I want to drive it away now!”

“Absolutely!” The manager exclaimed, visibly thrilled.

After all, Charlie had purchased a BMW 760 yesterday and was looking to buy a BMW 530 today, this was a significant sale!

“Sir, please follow me, I’ll show you the vehicles on display.”

Charlie nodded and followed the manager into the showroom.

Sure enough, they found a BMW 530 on display. Charlie sat inside and felt around. Although it resembled the 7 Series in appearance, the interior was noticeably less luxurious. Yet for his middle-aged father-in-law, it was already a high-end option.

Prepared to make the purchase directly, Charlie suddenly heard a familiar voice calling out flirtatiously, “Oh dear, I really love the BMW X6! Can you buy me one?”

Turning in the direction of the voice, Charlie spotted Lily Lewis, the fiance of his college friend Douglas, cozying up to a strange man with an intimate expression.

Charlie frowned with irritation, Lily calling another man “dear” made his blood boil. Could she really be cheating on Douglas? His anger surged. He had a low tolerance for women who lacked integrity and were unfaithful.

Moreover, Douglas was dedicated to his career and here she was, sneaking around and betraying him, she was simply repulsive!

Just then, the man grinned lecherously and asked, “If I buy you an X6 right now, how will you explain it to Douglas?”

“Douglas?” Lily Lewis replied dismissively, “Don’t mention that coward. He’s useless, comes from a poor family and has no ambition. If it weren’t for his honest, down-to-earth appearance, I wouldn’t be with him!”

When the students learned that Lily’s father was an appraiser of cultural relics, they cast looks of disdain and sympathy toward Charlie.

They thought he was quite unfortunate!

He had intended to brag but ended up facing a specialist. Wasn’t this just a slap in the face for him?

Wouldn’t Lawson Lewis, Lily’s father, end up embarrassed?

Claire also felt a bit awkward and whispered to Charlie, “Charlie, with so many classmates watching, you should reconsider. Otherwise, this could get really embarrassing!”

Prior to this, Charlie had mentioned wanting to buy a painting, stating it wasn’t worth much. Now, he claimed it was valued in the tens of thousands, leaving Claire uncertain and suspecting he might have been lying to save face.

However, Charlie appeared unfazed and remarked, “If you don’t believe me, let’s have a professional evaluate it. By the way, let’s not forget that classmate Clinton Tucker stubbornly insisted he would eat the table if he lost.”

Clinton, recalling the earlier humiliation of his car being set on fire, gritted his teeth and retorted, “Charlie, don’t get too cocky! You conned me during the race! I admit defeat! If that painting really is worth tens of thousands, I’ll eat the table right here! But if it isn’t, then what will you eat?”

Charlie nodded and replied calmly, “Alright, if it’s not worth that, I’ll eat it too.”

Though the painting wasn’t a masterpiece, it was indeed a work by Rachel Ruysch, a painter from the Dutch Golden Age. Moreover, the antique shop was a national chain that guaranteed genuine items, offering a tenfold penalty for fakes. Therefore, the painting couldn’t possibly be a fake.

Claire wanted to intervene, but before she could, Charlie had already agreed. With no other choice, she could only sigh internally.

Loreen was also surprised. How could Charlie be so confident? If one looked closely, Charlie was quite the enigmatic figure. That day at Heaven Springs, even the renowned Don Albert had shown him respect. She had never quite understood why. But deep down, she was certain that Charlie harbored secrets!

Clinton felt he finally had a chance to turn the tables and eagerly announced, “Alright, everyone is here to witness this. Let’s call Lily’s father to come down and help us assess it!”

Lily dialed her father in front of everyone, saying, “Dad, please come downstairs. Douglas’s classmate brought a painting and needs your expertise.”

A minute later, an elderly man slowly descended the stairs from the second floor. This man is Lawson Lewis, a renowned cultural relic appraiser in Aurous Hill.

Today marked the opening of the restaurant owned by Lawson Lewis’s daughter and her fiance, whom he had invited for a private gathering upstairs. Responding to the request for help with the ancient painting assessment, he descended out of professional instinct.

Lawson Lewis approached the stage and Lily hastily handed him the gift box containing the painting, saying, “Dad, please help identify this painting. Some people claim it’s worth tens of thousands!”

In saying this, she shot a contemptuous glance at Charlie.

Who would believe that a freeloader could give an ancient painting valued at tens of thousands? It was clear to everyone, the painting had to be a fake!

Others shared similar sentiments.

Nobody believed Charlie could genuinely present a painting valued at tens of thousands.

Lawson Lewis took the gift box, carefully unrolling the scroll under everyone’s watchful eye.

The painting appeared old and somewhat yellowed, looking quite ordinary. Many classmates who relied on surface judgments commented, “Oh, it doesn’t seem like anything special!”

“Yeah, I think it’s only worth about fifty bucks.”

“It’s probably worth less than the box! Maybe that’s worth seventy or eighty!”

Lawson Lewis examined the painting closely. After a few minutes, he smiled and asked, “Was this painting given by classmate of Douglas?”

“Yes.” Lily responded. “He was a good friend of Douglas in college!”

As Lily spoke, she thought to herself, Charlie, you’re friends with Douglas and you gifted me a piece of junk worth less than a hundred dollars. My father will expose you in front of everyone!

However, to everyone’s shock, Lawson Lewis sighed and declared, “It seems he is indeed a good friend! If not, who would give away such a valuable piece?”

Everyone was left speechless!

What? Valuable? This ragged thing is expensive?

Clinton thought, expensive my foot! I could go to the antique street and buy a pair of fake flowers, age them artificially and they would look more authentic than this painting!

At that moment, Lawson Lewis serious demeanor returned. “This is an authentic work by Rachel Ruysch, a painter from the Dutch Golden Age. While Rachel Ruysch isn’t widely known, she is still regarded as one of the most significant painters and among the Eight Eccentrics of Confrerie Pictura!”

Lawson Lewis then stated, “I estimate that the market value of this painting is around 200,000 dollars.”

“More than 200,000?” Lily was left dumbfounded. She thought this piece was worthless. Who could have imagined it was worth over 200,000?

Douglas was astonished, exclaiming, “Oh! Charlie, how could you give me such a valuable gift! This is too much…”

Charlie replied calmly, “Douglas, it’s merely a token of my thoughts. Don’t focus too much on its price.”

Douglas was deeply touched. He hadn’t anticipated that his college friend would be so thoughtful!

Clinton sat there in disbelief. What’s going on? This worthless thing is valued at over 200,000? It looks like this and is worth that much? This can’t be real!

The classmates were equally astonished.

No one dared to belittle Charlie anymore!

After all, he was someone who could casually present a gift valued at over 200,000 dollars!

Everyone felt envious of Douglas!

How incredible! He received such an expensive gift for the opening; what a tremendous stroke of luck!

At this point, Lily was also taken aback and quickly altered her perception of Charlie.

She was well aware of her father’s expertise. If he said this painting was valued at over 200,000, it undoubtedly was!

Oh my goodness! Douglas’s classmate gave such an extravagant gift. This is genuinely extraordinary!

Contemplating this, she looked at Charlie with admiration.

Claire, puzzled, asked, “Charlie, how much did you spend on this painting?”

Charlie smiled slightly and whispered, “Honestly, it didn’t cost much. The seller was someone I knew and he bought it at a bargain, so he sold it to me at a lower price.”

Claire couldn’t help but exclaim, “A painting worth over 200,000 dollars sold to you for a few thousand? Is that even possible?”

Charlie replied casually, “Many people don’t place such importance on money. Am I any different? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have given this painting to Douglas.”

Claire nodded in agreement. Charlie had a point. If money mattered so much, no one would readily give such extravagant gifts. It seemed that, although her husband might not be notably successful, his boldness was commendable!

At this moment, Charlie stood up, glanced at Clinton, who looked thoroughly rattled, and asked with a smile, “Clinton, how would you like to eat that table? Will you munch on it raw with your mouth, or should I chop it into pieces for you to nibble on?”

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 57

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 57

Jasmine expressed her true feelings.

She couldn’t help but think that the new chairman of the Emgrand Group was truly enigmatic.

He had effortlessly acquired a vast conglomerate worth hundreds of billions, yet he never made an appearance. It was clear that his business ventures extended far beyond the scope of the Emgrand Group.

In contrast, the Moore family seemed rather insignificant.

However, what Jasmine didn’t realize was that the chairman of the Emgrand Group, whom she had hoped to befriend, was sitting right beside her.

Charlie maintained an air of low-profile humility, replying to her comments briefly while withholding any personal information.

Jasmine drove swiftly and steadily.

Before long, they arrived at a quaint courtyard by the riverbank.

This secluded and elegant courtyard had a simple exterior, but inside, it showcased the architectural style of a water village from Salford Province.

With small bridges arching over trickling water, beautifully landscaped Su-style gardens, and pavilions, the scenery was picturesque.

After parking the car, they were promptly welcomed inside by a staff member.

They crossed the yard and entered the lobby.

Inside the traditionally decorated hall, a round table made of mahogany took center stage, surrounded by several armchairs.

Upon seeing the two of them enter, an elderly man with white hair rose to greet Jasmine, saying, “Miss, you’ve arrived.”

Jasmine looked slightly flustered and responded, “Uncle Quilt, what brings you here too?”

The old man smiled gently, “The master learned of your visit and asked me to come take care of you.”

Jasmine nodded and introduced Charlie, “Uncle Quilt is our family’s treasured appraiser sent from the Moore family. They are concerned about any potential mistakes.”

Charlie nodded in understanding. Being young, it was reasonable for the Moore family to have some reservations.

Uncle Quilt peered at Charlie with a hint of disdain and asked, “Is this the young treasure appraiser invited by the eldest lady? So young, have you already mastered the art of appraisal?”

A middle-aged man with an unpleasant expression next to him scoffed, “You brought such a young person to appraise? Is there no one else in the Moore family? Should I lend you a few competent appraisers? Hahaha.”

Jasmine’s expression turned cold as she retorted, “Travis Lane, this is Aurous Hill, not your Lancaster. You really shouldn’t speak out of line here.”

Travis Lane shrugged casually, unfazed, “Looks like the little girl from the Moore family has a fiery temper.”

“Enough…” a middle-aged man sitting at the eastern side of the round table interjected sternly. “We’re here to conduct business, not to argue. Let’s stay composed.”

“And you, young man, please take a seat as well.”

Jasmine snorted but gradually settled into her chair.

Charlie also took a seat, and then Jasmine leaned in closer to whisper in his ear, “The person called Travis Lane is the wealthiest man in Lancaster. That guy next to him is Matthew Gibson, a highly regarded Feng Shui master. The one who just spoke is Graham, head of the Quinton family in Aurous Hill. Their family has recently…”

Charlie then noticed an elderly man in a green black suit seated beside Travis Lane. The old man sported a full head of silver hair, giving him an almost ethereal appearance. He exuded an aura that seemed to ward off strangers, keeping his eyes closed without reacting even as Charlie and the others entered.

At this point, Jasmine fell silent. Though Charlie was curious, he chose not to ask any further questions.

Once everyone had taken their seats, a portly man in lavish attire sitting across the table smiled and said, “Now that we’ve settled the quarrels, let’s examine the item. You’re all affluent families, there’s no need to fret over such a small trinket worth hundreds of millions.”

Travis scoffed, “As long as this item truly possesses the ability to harmonize Feng Shui and calm the spirit as you’ve claimed, I wouldn’t mind spending hundreds of millions on it.”

The fat man glanced around, then placed an ancient wooden box on the table.

Inside the box lay a piece of red jade that emitted a blood-like glow and displayed a vintage style. As soon as it was revealed, a warm atmosphere enveloped the hall.

Graham and his companions immediately stared in awe.

Turning to Uncle Quilt, Jasmine asked, “Uncle Quilt, what’s your opinion on this jade?”

Uncle Quilt examined it for a moment, nodding, “It appears to be genuine. It’s a blood jade from before the Zhou Dynasty, evidently nurtured for a long time by a revered monk.”

Jasmine nodded before turning to Charlie, asking, “What about you, Mr. Wade?”

Charlie curled his lips in disdain and replied, “It’s a counterfeit…”

Uncle Quilt scoffed disdainfully and said, “You’re so young who gave you the audacity to mislead so many people?”

The old man Matthew Gibson beside Travis Lane opened his eyes and inquired, “May I handle it?”

The fat man snickered mockingly, saying, “Mr. Gibson, are you joking? You know you can’t handle jade carelessly? Ordinary jade should not be handled and this piece is blood jade from the Zhou Dynasty. Who would take responsibility if it were to fall or get damaged?”

Matthew Gibson paused for a moment, realizing his mistake, and said, “I was too forward…”

He stepped closer to the ancient jade, scrutinizing it carefully. After a while, he closed his eyes again and after a lengthy silence, he nodded and remarked, “I can’t attest to whether it is truly from the Zhou Dynasty, but the claims regarding its ability to harmonize Feng Shui and calm the mind seem credible.”

At this, the atmosphere in the room grew charged with excitement.

For them, the exact history of this jade held little significance what mattered most was its potential value.

Uncle Quilt smiled and commented, “Mr. Gibson possesses discernment, unlike those who lack ability yet still feign knowledge.”

Hearing this, Jasmine felt a tinge of disappointment towards Charlie.

It seemed he was still too young. Despite his flair for cultural relic restoration, he was considerably outmatched by these seasoned experts when it came to identifying antiques.

Noticing Jasmine’s dismay, Charlie simply shook his head slightly. If these individuals wished to be deceived, he saw no reason to intervene.

Once the fat man observed that everyone had completed their evaluations, he closed the box and said with a grin, “Now that we’ve appraised the item, shall we make our bids?”

Before he could finish, Graham jumped in, “I’ll offer 100 million…”

“130 million,” Travis Lane chimed in.

Seeing Jasmine remain silent, the fat man queried, “What about you, Ms. Moore?”

Noticing Jasmine hesitating, Quilt leaned in and whispered, “Miss, this is undoubtedly a treasure. Its estimated value should be around 300 million. Acquiring it for 200 million would guarantee you a great deal.”

Jasmine felt a flicker of uncertainty. She glanced at Charlie, but found him to be impassive, neither pleased nor distressed, which only added to her confusion.

Uncle Quilt cast a cold glance at Charlie, knowing that Jasmine’s hesitation stemmed from Charlie’s influence and he said, “Earlier, Mr. Wade claimed that this ancient jade is fake. I am genuinely curious how he arrived at that conclusion. Let’s witness Mr. Wade’s expertise!”

Should Charlie speak nonsense thereafter, Jasmine would surely realize that his words lacked substance, allowing her to feel secure in making an offer.

The others chimed in with derisive comments.

“What does he know, being just a boy? He shouldn’t embarrass himself here…”

“Indeed, who appointed him to speak?”

“If you have no intention of bidding, then please don’t waste our time.”

Listening to the mockery surrounding him, Charlie merely regarded Uncle Quilt with interest and calmly asked, “Are you certain you want me to elaborate?”

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 35

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 35

Charlie laughed instead of getting angry and inquired, “If you sell one of these cars, how much commission do you earn?”

The other person scoffed, “I get $10,000!”

Charlie nodded, “Very good, you’ve just lost that $10,000.”

With that, Charlie turned and walked out.

At that moment, the manager of the store entered. His badge read Arthur Walsh, Sales Manager.

Charlie asked him, “Are you in charge here?”

“Yes,” Arthur Walsh replied with a nod. “What do you need?”

Charlie pointed at the salesperson he had just spoken to and said, “You should probably fire that person. His presence will only hinder the business in your dealership.”

Hearing this, the salesperson rushed over and exclaimed, “Manager Walsh, don’t listen to his nonsense! This guy is ridiculous! He is just a poor bugger who came to use our WiFi and air conditioning!”

Charlie smiled and said, “Whether I’m a poor bugger or not, just wait and see.”

After saying this, he exited and headed straight for the BMW showroom next door.

Upon arriving at the BMW store, Charlie spotted a luxurious BMW 760. This was the high-end model of the BMW 7 Series, without a doubt.

The BMW 760 boasts a powerful 12-cylinder engine and a lavish interior.

Feeling a bit angry, Charlie thought, didn’t these Audi fools look down on him? Fine, he would buy a top-tier BMW to show them.

After all, he had plenty of money!

He directly approached a BMW salesperson and asked, “Can I take this 760 immediately?”

The salesperson was taken aback, “Sir, this car just arrived today. Are you sure you want to buy it?”

“Yes.” Charlie affirmed. “I’m certain. Take me to process the payment!”

“Uh, this car costs 2.6 million!” She was simply stunned.

Having sold cars for quite a while, she had never encountered a customer asking to swipe a card without any preliminary conversation. Is this guy just messing with me?

Charlie smiled and said, “I know the price. Just let me know if you’re willing to sell it!”

“Of course we’ll sell it!” The girl responded, excitedly. “Please follow me!”

Under her guidance, Charlie swiped his card, completed the transaction and drove off with the car.

When the BMW 760, worth over $2.6 million, rolled out, everyone at the Audi dealership was astonished.

Charlie parked the BMW 760 in front of the Audi store, opened the trunk to stow away his electric bike and then drove off confidently.

The salesperson who had belittled Charlie was left speechless, while manager Arthur Walsh coldly stated, “Head to HR and hand in your resignation. You’re fired!”

“Manager…”

“Get lost!”

The other employees at the Audi store were equally shocked. No one expected that the man riding the electric bike would be so audacious as to purchase a car valued at over $2.6 million!

The salesperson who had looked down on Charlie felt immense regret. Not only had he missed out on a substantial commission but he had also lost his job. If he had known, he would have never judged anyone so hastily…

As Charlie drove away in the BMW 760, he felt a twinge of impulsiveness about his decision. He didn’t regret the money itself, but the car was rather costly. How would he explain this to Claire? 2.6 million didn’t just fall from the sky, right?

After some thought, a brilliant idea suddenly struck him. He drove to a nearby repair shop, spending $20 to have the owner change the BMW 760 logo to a BMW 520.

The BMW 5 Series and 7 Series look quite similar, with the primary distinction being the interior ordinary people can only discern them by their rear badges.

The 520 is the base model of the 5 Series with average specs, while the 760 is the top spec of the 7 Series, boasting superior capabilities.

Charlie drove the 760 with a 520 badge, thinking that since Claire wasn’t very knowledgeable about cars, she likely wouldn’t recognize it as a 760.

The repair shop owner, who hadn’t expected such frugality from Charlie, thought to himself that the man must be trying to play the part of a fool to catch the tiger!

After purchasing the car, Charlie recalled that Douglas’s restaurant was set to open at noon today and he needed to prepare a gift.

Given that Douglas had been one of the few classmates who treated him well in college, he went directly to a large art consignment store and spent $200,000 on an early painting by a historic artist.

The artist was not particularly famous, so most people wouldn’t recognize his work.

The reason Charlie chose such a historic painting was that he wanted to give Douglas something of substance without revealing its true worth to others. If anyone inquired, he could easily say it cost only a few thousand dollars and leave it at that.

After purchasing the painting, it was nearly noon. Charlie called his wife Claire to inform her that he would pick her and Loreen up from the Emgrand Group.

When they met, Claire was stunned to see Charlie driving a BMW 5 Series! She looked at him in disbelief and asked, “Where did you get this car?”

Charlie smiled and replied, “I bought it for you!”

“You bought it?” Claire responded, even more astonished. “Where did you get the money?”

“Private funds.” Charlie said. “Look, I’ve been married into the Wilson family for a while now and didn’t spend a dime on the wedding. I’ve used the Wilson family’s resources over the years. What’s strange about saving some private money?”

Claire countered, “But you could save that money for yourself! Why buy such an expensive car? It must cost around $400,000, right?”

Charlie smiled and reassured her, “You’re my wife. If I can’t spend my private money on you, who else would I? Would I give it to someone else? Plus, you’re now a director. If you don’t have a decent car, people will talk bad of you.”

At that moment, Loreen chimed in, “Claire, you truly need a business vehicle. This car is perfect for you. Charlie has you in mind, be happy about it!”

Claire nodded, touched. “Charlie, thank you!”

Charlie gently squeezed her hand and said with a smile, “Why be so formal with your husband?”

After that, he said to both women, “Let’s head directly to Douglas’s restaurant!”

Claire quickly inquired, “Did you buy him a gift?”

“Yes.” Charlie responded. “I bought him a painting.”

“A painting?” Claire asked with curiosity. “What kind of painting?”

Charlie answered, “It’s one of those ancient pieces sold on the antique street. I saw it featured pomegranates, symbolizing many children, wealth, and happiness. It seemed nice, so I bought it.”

Claire asked, “How much did it cost?”

“A few thousand dollars.”

Claire nodded, smiling, “Then you might have been scammed! It’s impossible to buy an authentic ancient painting for just a few thousand dollars.”

Charlie shrugged and said, “It doesn’t really matter. The thought behind the gift is what counts. It may be light in value, but heavy in sentiment.”

Claire agreed, “You’re right. It’s the thought that matters. Let’s head there now!”

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 43

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 43

Claire was also very curious about the events that had transpired that day.

First, she wondered why Charlie’s BMW 520 was twice as fast as Clinton Tucker’s BMW 540. Then, there was the issue of the ancient painting that Charlie possessed, which was valued at hundreds of thousands. She was also puzzled as to how Charlie had connections in the underworld and why these individuals showed him such respect.

During their drive back, Charlie explained to her that the BMW 520 was a test drive car modified by the dealership. They had made slight alterations to make it seem more powerful in order to attract potential buyers.

Claire wasn’t very knowledgeable about cars, so she accepted his explanation without question. As for the ancient painting, it had been previously explained that someone had gifted it to him at a low price out of friendship, which he then passed on to Douglas in the same spirit.

However, the situation with Scarface was a bit more complicated. After all, Scarface had been quite attentive in calling Charlie “Mr. Wade” and Charlie found it difficult to provide a clear answer. In the end, he could only say that Scarface was related to one of his friends and he paid him respect because of that connection.

Claire sensed something was off, but seeing the certainty in Charlie’s words, she realized that further inquiries would be futile, so she dropped the subject.

Meanwhile, Loreen had been observing Charlie and was increasingly convinced that he was no ordinary person. Thus, she resolved to pay closer attention to him in the future to uncover his secrets.

Clinton Tucker was said to be in a dire condition, by the time he reached the hospital, he was already unconscious. His father had been dismissed from his position at the Emgrand Group for misusing his authority for personal gain and was subsequently arrested by the authorities. It was evident that Clinton Tucker’s family was now in complete ruin. However, they were not particularly well-known in Aurous Hill, so no one seemed to care about their plight.

What everyone really focused on were the immensely wealthy individuals on social media and the enigmatic figure who was about to reserve the Shangri-La Sky Garden.

Everyone was eager to discover who these individuals were and whether they were the same person!

Soon, the time for the wedding anniversary arrived.

Having mentioned to Claire that he wanted to surprise her, Charlie insisted that she change into an elegant white evening gown before they went out.

Claire reluctantly complied, muttering, “We’re just going out for a meal, do I really need to wear such formal attire? Even if it is our wedding anniversary, it doesn’t have to be so extravagant, does it?”

Charlie smiled and replied, “It’s our third anniversary, so it deserves to be celebrated more formally. I’ve made a reservation for dinner and I promise you will be pleased with the arrangements tonight.”

He had been careful to keep his plans under wraps and Claire had never doubted him.

Claire smiled gently, feeling touched by his thoughtfulness.

In the past two years, they had celebrated their wedding anniversaries casually at home. Although those times were ordinary, Charlie would always prepare small, heartfelt gifts for her, even when he had little to his name.

But this year, Charlie’s mysterious behavior left her guessing about what surprises he had in store.

After a short while, they changed and drove in the BMW 720 to the Shangri-La Hotel.

Stepping out of the car, Charlie gazed at Claire beside him with affection and said, “Claire, tonight we’ll celebrate our third wedding anniversary here. What do you think?”

Claire’s expression shifted; was this where Charlie had made their reservation? She instinctively asked, “You’re not joking, are you?”

Charlie chuckled and replied, “Of course not! I made the reservation here a few days ago. If you’re skeptical, let’s go in and check the booking details.”

Claire shook her head. Throughout their three years of marriage, Charlie had never lied to her, especially not on such an important occasion. “No, I trust you,” she said.

Then she inquired, “You didn’t reserve a spot in the Sky Garden, did you? Isn’t it booked by some big shot today?”

Charlie quickly assured her, “I booked a table next to the Sky Garden so we can see inside and find out who the elusive big shot is. What do you think?”

Claire smiled and replied, “I’m not as curious as you are!”

They then proceeded into the Shangri-La Hotel.

Just as they were about to head upstairs, they heard a woman’s voice call out, “Hey, Claire, what are you doing here?”

Claire looked up to see a young man and woman approaching.

The man sported an expensive suit, clearly identifying him as a privileged heir from a prominent family. The woman wore designer clothes and had a heavy-handed makeup look, her demeanor exuded arrogance and her attire was overly flashy.

Claire recognized her as Julie Downs, a former college roommate.

Even though they had shared a dormitory, Claire and Julie’s relationship had been quite ordinary at best.

This was primarily due to Julie’s self-importance and jealousy. She had always felt that Claire didn’t deserve the title of campus belle; that honor belonged to her instead.

However, the reality was that Julie fell short of Claire in looks, poise, and depth.

That said, she did excel at charming men. Rumor had it she had courted many affluent individuals during college, with their financial support covering her expenses throughout the four years.

Claire frowned but felt compelled to stay polite since they were acquaintances. As the duo approached, she forced a polite greeting, “Julie, it’s been a while. My husband and I are here for dinner. How about you?”

Julie replied, “Oh, what a coincidence! My husband and I are here to eat as well!”

Then, feigning curiosity, she added, “By the way, which type of seating did you book ordinary, high-end, or luxury?”

Claire was uncertain about Charlie’s arrangements and could only respond, “I don’t know. My husband made the reservation.”

At that moment, Julie noticed Charlie standing next to Claire, covered her mouth, and let out a laugh, “Oh, this is your live-in husband Charlie, right? He was quite the well-known gigolo back in school!”

The underlying mockery in her tone was quite cutting.

Claire felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her.

Julie quickly regained her composure and said apologetically, “Oh, I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have said that. Claire, please don’t take it to heart…”

Charlie frowned slightly. It seemed that Julie harbored an unkind intention!
