The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 48

The man snorted, a grin spreading across his face as he pinched Lily Lewis’s cheek. “Now that you’re my woman, are you still planning to be with him? I won’t allow any other men to touch what’s mine!”

Lily Lewis quickly replied, “Don’t worry, Jerome. Since we got together, I haven’t let him touch me at all, I think he’s disgusting! My body will forever belong to you, dear. I will serve only you!”

She continued, “Honestly, I wanted to break up with him right after the restaurant opened, but I didn’t expect that he had a capable classmate who helped me deal with Scar, a thug from the development zone. I planned to break up with him once the business stabilized and then kick him out of the restaurant.”

Jerome Hunt chuckled and said, “Scar and who? What’s the big deal? If you had told me sooner, I could have just called him to apologize on your behalf.”

Lily Lewis smiled and replied, “Oh, you’re amazing, Jerome! I didn’t have time to call you because things were so urgent and Douglas was there too. I was worried you’d be upset seeing him!”

Jerome pinched her waist and grinned, “You’re quite clever!”

Lily Lewis eagerly rubbed against his arm and asked, “Jerome, dear, would you be willing to buy me a BMW X6?”

Jerome laughed and said, “Sure! But first, let’s go to my place. Let me pamper you a little, then you can break up with that loser and I promise to buy you your X6 tomorrow!”

Lily Lewis was surprised and asked, “Jerome, are you serious? You really will get me an X6 tomorrow?”

“When have I ever lied to you?” Jerome scoffed. “But first, you need to take good care of me!”

With a flirtatious look, Lily Lewis assured him, “Don’t worry, dear! I’ll make sure to treat you well when we get to your house later!”

As they finished their conversation, they turned to leave the car dealership.

Charlie felt irritated at the sight of the couple, prompting him to pull out his phone and call Douglas.

As soon as Douglas picked up, he exclaimed, “Charlie! What’s up? Why are you calling me?”

Charlie responded coolly, “Just checking in. What are you up to these days?”

Douglas replied, “I’m helping out in the hotel kitchen. It’s almost noon and we need to prepare for the customers.”

Charlie inquired, “Are you busy at the hotel every day?”

“Yes.” Douglas confirmed. “The hotel has just opened, so there’s a lot to take care of. Besides, more than half of the investment came from Lili’s father. If I don’t work hard, they’ll think less of me.”

Charlie asked again, “And how much did you invest?”

Douglas replied “I put in $100,000, which is all I’ve saved since graduating college.”

Charlie continued, “Who owns the restaurant then?”

Douglas proudly claimed, “That’s me!”

Charlie pressed on, “Is your name on the business registration?”

Douglas admitted, “No, it’s registered under Lili’s father. We’re not married yet, so it wouldn’t be appropriate to put my name on someone else’s investment. However, her father promised that once we marry, the restaurant will officially belong to me.”

Hearing this, Charlie shook his head. This fool was completely unaware he was being played!

Lily Lewis was treating him like an unpaid worker while she flirted with wealthy men. She was ready to kick him aside once the restaurant became more established.

Once the business registration had nothing to do with Douglas, Lili could easily dismiss him, leaving him empty-handed!

Not only would he lose everything, but his own $100,000 investment would also go down the drain!

With increasing disgust towards Lily Lewis, Charlie asked Douglas directly, “Where is Lili now?”

Douglas replied with a smile, “She’s getting her hair done. What’s wrong?”

Charlie sneered, “Getting her hair done? Did she say that?”

“Yes!” Douglas said.

“Do you actually believe her?” asked Charlie.

Douglas, sounding puzzled, responded, “Charlie, what are you getting at? Just say it directly, there’s no need to be vague.”

Charlie sighed and said, “Fine, I’ll be straightforward. I just saw Lily Lewis at the BMW 4S store. She’s with a guy named Jerome and keeps calling him ‘dear.’ You might have been cheated on.”

“That’s impossible!” Douglas exclaimed. “Lily is not that kind of person! Are you sure you didn’t mistake her for someone else?”

Charlie insisted, “I didn’t mistake her. It was definitely her.”

“I don’t believe that!” Douglas said coldly. “Charlie, we have a good relationship, but you can’t just slander my fiance like this!”

Charlie responded firmly, “Douglas, wake up! Your fiance is already with another man. Jerome promised her a BMW X6. She likely plans to break up with you after returning home tonight! As a friend, I’m advising you to take precautions!”

Without waiting for a response, Charlie added, “You should move the painting I gave you. If you keep it, at least you’ll have something to fall back on. But if you choose not to believe me, that’s on you.”

Douglas grew anxious. “Charlie! Don’t spout nonsense! Lily is my fiance, I know her better than anyone! She would never betray me! If you frame her again, I’ll cut ties!”

Charlie frowned and remained calm. “Alright, I’ve warned you as a friend. If you refuse to believe me, there’s nothing more I can do. Best of luck!”

With that, Charlie hung up the phone.

What a fool blinded by love! If only he had secretly recorded a video to show him!

Just then, the Manager of the BMW store knocked on Charlie’s car window and asked, “Sir, are you satisfied with this 530?”

Charlie nodded, “Yes, it’s great. Please prepare a new one from the warehouse for me.”

The manager beamed, “Please wait a moment, I’ll have someone arrange that!”

Shortly after, a black BMW 530 was driven over by a salesperson. Charlie quickly swiped his card, paid for the car, folded his electric scooter and stowed it in the trunk, driving off with a swagger.

On his way back, both his father-in-law and mother-in-law called one after the other, inquiring about his return.

When Charlie reached downstairs, he found his in-laws waiting for him.

Seeing that Charlie had indeed bought a BMW 530, the elderly couple couldn’t contain their excitement.

His father-in-law circled the car several times, exclaiming, “What a beautiful car! I never thought I would have the chance to drive a BMW!”

Charlie smiled and said, “Dad, who knows, you might end up driving a Rolls-Royce someday.”

His father-in-law laughed, “Well, that depends on your success!”

His mother-in-law also looked thrilled and her attitude toward Charlie had improved significantly.

After taking a test drive, the father-in-law returned and remarked, “This car is fantastic and drives smoothly. However, it’s a bit long and hard to maneuver. Charlie, can you be my driver this afternoon? I have an appointment to check something out.”

Charlie nodded, “Sure, Dad.”

Excitedly, the mother-in-law chimed in, “You’ll be my driver later too! Take me out for afternoon tea with my friends! I want them to see I have a BMW to pick me up!”

“Alright, Mom!”

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 28

After resolving his mother-in-law’s issues, she happily took the cash and headed to the bank to make a deposit.

Charlie went straight home.

As soon as he entered the house, he noticed that Claire had changed her shoes at the door, indicating she was back, so he headed directly to the bedroom.

Upon entering the bedroom, he saw his wife Claire had just hung up the phone, her face lighting up with surprise and excitement.

Curiously, he asked, “Wife, who were you just talking to?”

Claire replied with enthusiasm, “It was my good friend Loreen! Do you remember her?”

“I do,” Charlie nodded, recalling their college days in Aurous Hill and the close bond he shared with Claire and her friend, who he believed was from a prominent family in Eastcliff. “Isn’t she the daughter of Thomas family?”

“Yes,” Claire confirmed. “Loreen’s family is quite influential in Eastcliff.”

Charlie smiled and inquired, “What’s the occasion? Is she coming to Aurous Hill to visit you?”

Claire said, “Not only is she coming to see me, but she’s also coming to work in Aurous Hill!”

Charlie frowned in confusion. “Why would the daughter of a prominent family choose to work in Aurous Hill instead of managing her family’s business?”

Claire replied, “I’m not sure. She mentioned she would work at Emgrand Group, but I don’t know why she’d come so far for that.”

Charlie nodded, contemplating the situation. Although the Thomas family was not as powerful as the Wade family, they were still quite influential in Eastcliff. It seemed strange for Loreen to abandon her family’s business for a position at Emgrand Group.

What could her reason be for taking this job?

Charlie was puzzled but knew he couldn’t determine anything just yet. It appeared he would have to wait until Loreen started at Emgrand Group and then ask Doris to evaluate her.

At that moment, Claire seemed to remember something and slapped her forehead. “Oh, by the way, Charlie, I have a meeting with Emgrand Group tomorrow and won’t be able to make it. Could you pick up Loreen at the airport and arrange a welcome for her?”

Charlie agreed, saying, “I’ll take care of it first thing tomorrow.”

Claire added, “And make sure to choose a nice place, don’t be shy about spending money. Use my bank card.”

As she handed him her wallet, Charlie quickly responded, “No need! I know someone who owns a restaurant that’s quite good, I can take care of it.”

He then took out his phone to send a text to Isaac Cameron at Shangri-La, asking him to arrange a banquet for him.

But after a moment’s thought, he realized that Shangri-La should remain a surprise for Claire, so he decided to look for another venue to welcome Loreen.

He sent a message to Don Albert instead.

“I’d like to host a banquet for some friends. Please help me arrange it at a high-end hotel, but not at Shangri-La.”

Before long, Don Albert replied, “Mr. Wade, don’t worry. I have a place called Heaven Springs, which is a top-tier restaurant in Aurous Hill, even better than Shangri-La. Tomorrow, I’ll ensure to book the best diamond box and banquet for you, waiting for your arrival.”

Charlie simply responded with a “Ok.”

The next day, Claire was busy all day at Emgrand Group, handling matters related to their cooperation.

Charlie called Doris, the vice-chairman of Emgrand Group, to inquire about Loreen starting work.

Doris was surprised Charlie had knowledge of this. She explained that Loreen had applied for the position of executive director, a mid-level management role. The group’s management found her resume impressive and had decided to hire her, with plans for her to start work soon.

Charlie advised her to keep an eye on Loreen once she joined and to update him on any developments.

After securing Doris’s assistance, Charlie took a taxi in the afternoon to the airport to pick up Claire’s best friend, Loreen Thomas.

As he arrived at the airport, he was about to head to the arrival hall when a Mercedes-Benz G suddenly screeched to a stop in front of him.

Claire’s cousin, Harold, popped his head out of the window, looking at Charlie with a frown. “Charlie, what are you doing here?”

“I’m here to pick up Claire’s best friend, what about you?”

Charlie noticed that the people inside the G-Class were all familiar faces Harold, Gerald White and Wendy.

Harold sneered, “You must mean Miss Thomas, right? Don’t worry, she’s with us, we’ll take care of her. You can leave now!”

Charlie retorted coldly, “If anyone should leave, it’s you.”

Ignoring them, Charlie walked straight into the arrival hall.

Harold opened his mouth, ready to lash out at Charlie, but Wendy quickly interjected, “Brother, Miss Thomas will be arriving soon. Grandma reminded you to make a good impression on her! If you could make her my sister-in-law, your standing in the family would skyrocket. Don’t waste your time on this loser.”

Harold snapped back to reality. He had nearly forgotten the primary reason for their presence today.

Welcoming Loreen was secondary, making a lasting impression on her was of utmost importance.

The Thomas family had significant influence in Eastcliff and if he could forge a connection with her, his status and that of the Wilson family would rise considerably.

Suppressing his irritation toward Charlie, he quickly jumped out of the car and the entire group rushed toward the arrival hall.

At that moment, a strikingly beautiful young woman emerged from the crowd. She had long chestnut hair and wore a white dress that accentuated her stunning figure.

Even behind her sunglasses, her porcelain skin and fiery red lips were impossible to overlook. Her beauty rivaled that of Claire, they both had their unique allure.

Instantly, all eyes outside the terminal were drawn to her.

Harold was momentarily taken aback.

Even Gerald White, who had come just to see the commotion, was left speechless, remarking, “She’s truly the embodiment of Eastcliff elegance. Her presence is something special.”

Just then, Loreen spotted them and hurried over from the crowd. After waving, she greeted, “Harold, Wendy and Charlie, it’s been a while!”

Harold’s heart raced with excitement as he blurted out, “It’s been a long time, Loreen. You look more beautiful than ever.”

Charlie added with a smile, “Good to see you again.”

Harold quickly continued, “Loreen, knowing you were coming, I booked a private room at the best hotel in Aurous Hill to welcome you! Let’s head there now.”

Loreen glanced at Charlie and apologetically told Harold, “I’m sorry, Harold, but I’ve already made plans to meet Claire and Charlie. We can definitely hang out another time, I’ll be in Aurous Hill for a while.”

Harold’s face turned stormy at her words. On such an important day, Charlie, a worthless nobody, had come to interfere, which was infuriating.

With frustration, he announced, “Loreen, in your honor, I booked a lavish golden box at Heaven Springs, with a minimum spend of $300,000!”

He shot a contemptuous look at Charlie, scoffing, “I’d be curious to know where this brother-in-law of mine is taking you. If it’s a subpar place, it would be such a slight to you!”

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 42

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 42

Clinton Tucker was at a loss for what to do, causing him considerable frustration. With so many classmates observing, he gritted his teeth and sought out other connections for help.

He called the head of the district public security bureau again, this person was close to his father.

Once the call connected, Clinton Tucker quickly began, “Mr. Kent, it’s Clinton Tucker here. I’ve run into a situation in the development zone…”

He recounted the incident in detail.

The other end of the line replied awkwardly, “Clinton, the person involved is one of Bill’s men and Bill is affiliated with Don Albert. It’s best if you stay out of this.”

Clinton Tucker pressed, “Aren’t you going to intervene?”

The other party responded, “You should be aware of Don Albert’s influence.”

Clinton Tucker felt a pang of panic and asked, “Couldn’t you at least put in a good word for me?”

The other party chuckled and said, “I’m afraid I can’t help you with that, sorry.”

Frustrated, Clinton Tucker retorted, “Mr. Kent, didn’t you mention wanting the Emgrand Group to donate a batch of police cars to your division? Don’t tell me you don’t want it anymore?”

The other man dropped the polite facade and said coldly, “Clinton Tucker, your father has just been let go by the Emgrand Group. Haven’t you heard?”

“Let go!? When did that happen?”

“Just half an hour ago!”

The call ended abruptly after his warning to investigate further.

Scarface observed Clinton Tucker’s shocked expression and sneered, “What? Can’t find any help?”

Clinton Tucker opened his mouth to respond, but Scarface unexpectedly slapped him, sending him reeling and tumbling over tables and chairs!

The room erupted in chaos!

Everyone’s faces turned ashen, yet no one dared to intervene against Scarface.

“You dare to lay a hand on me?”

Clinton Tucker covered his face, his normally fair complexion now flushed with rage.

“What’s wrong with me hitting you?”

Scarface laughed and delivered a powerful kick to Clinton Tucker’s stomach, sending him crashing to the floor, where the beating continued.

Clinton Tucker cried out in pain, but at that moment, no one stepped in to help.

Eventually, he was left looking like a battered mess, bloodied and bruised beyond recognition.

In sheer terror, Clinton Tucker pleaded, “Brother, brother, I was wrong! Please stop hitting me!”

“Wrong? Is that all? You were trying to act tough with me, how do you expect to survive if I don’t teach you a lesson?”

He then called to others, “Come on, let’s give it to him!”

A group swarmed in, unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks on Clinton Tucker. Some even swung baseball bats, turning the scene into a nightmarish display.

As Clinton Tucker lay half-conscious, Scarface approached Douglas with a threatening glare, saying, “Your friend thought he was invincible. The original 20% demand has now doubled to 40%! If you don’t agree, his fate will serve as a warning to you!”

Douglas was gripped with fear, surrendering 40% of his shares felt like becoming a servant to this gang of thugs. Summoning his courage, he countered, “If you want 40%, you might as well kill me!”

Scarface frowned, uttering coldly, “Fine! Then I’ll gladly oblige!”

He pulled out a sharp knife from his pocket.

Panic filled the room and a female classmate shrieked in terror.

Just as Scarface was about to harm Douglas, Charlie shouted, “Put down the knife!”

Scarface spun around angrily, “Who wants to die?”

His fury faded when he recognized Charlie. Confusion turned to fear and he suddenly dropped to his knees.

Before anyone could react, Scarface tossed away the knife and began slapping himself across the face, apologizing, “I’m sorry, Mr. Wade! I didn’t recognize you!”

Charlie was taken aback, looking closely at Scarface. “Do you know me?”

Scarface nodded vigorously, explaining, “Mr. Wade, I serve Bill. I’ve seen you at Heaven Springs…”

Understanding dawned on Charlie.

So that was it.

The troublemaker who had confronted Gerald White and Harold at Heaven Springs was Don Albert’s younger brother, known as Bill, making Scarface one of his subordinates.

No wonder he was terrified upon seeing me.

Don Albert had nearly collapsed when he saw me, so it made sense that his brother’s subordinate would react similarly.

The classmates were left in shock! Lily Lewis looked as if she were in a dream. Everyone wondered why a fierce gangster, who had just assaulted Clinton Tucker, would kneel before Charlie, a mere son-in-law, filled with fear.

Claire was equally baffled and asked Charlie, “What’s going on? Do you know him?”

Worried that she might misinterpret his connections as criminal, Charlie quickly replied, “I don’t know him!”

Scarface hastened to add, “I don’t know him! I’ve never met Mr. Wade, I’ve only heard of him and admired him from afar…”

Such flattery…

Admired Charlie?

No one could grasp this unbelievable reality; it was simply too surreal!

Scarface turned to Douglas, stating, “You’re Mr. Wade’s friend, so I’ll protect your restaurant without charging you a dime! I’ll make sure you have no troubles!”

The declaration left everyone in the room stunned!

Lily Lewis was so astonished she nearly broke into tears. The contrast from earlier was astonishing!

Thanks to Charlie’s influence, Douglas avoided losing 40% of his shares. More importantly, Scarface was willing to protect his establishment for free just to stay in Charlie’s good graces!

He could now run his business without worry!

Charlie had essentially saved his livelihood!

Douglas expressed his heartfelt gratitude, saying, “Charlie, I cannot thank you enough for this.”

Charlie smiled, “You don’t need to be so formal with me.”

Scarface then looked at the unconscious Clinton Tucker and said, filled with remorse, “I apologize, Mr. Wade, for beating your friend…”

Charlie replied nonchalantly, “It’s fine he isn’t really a friend, just an acquaintance with whom I don’t share much connection. Get him to the hospital, we can’t let this disrupt the opening ceremony.”

Scarface immediately complied, saying, “We’ll take him to the hospital! Mr. Wade, please continue, we won’t interrupt further!”

With that, he quickly summoned his crew, carried the unconscious Clinton Tucker and left in haste.

The way everyone viewed Charlie transformed from scorn to astonishment and then to respect. No one understood why Charlie wielded such power.

The son-in-law who once seemed inconsequential had suddenly presented a completely different image!

At the banquet, many approached Charlie to ingratiate themselves, including Lily Lewis, who had initially looked down on him.

Now, Lily Lewis idolized Charlie as a true hero, thanking him profusely and even offering him free meals for life.

Charlie paid little attention to this, he merely aided Douglas and helped resolve a minor issue. But to everyone else, the events of that day had taken on an almost magical significance!

Everyone was eager to uncover the truth about the once broke son-in-law who had miraculously become influential overnight.

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 45

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 45

Kyle’s expression was extremely grim, his face flushed with anger. In that moment, he experienced the overwhelming sensation of an entire grassland weighing down on him!

Unable to contain his rage any longer, he struck Julie repeatedly in a frenzy, yelling, “You deceitful scoundrel! You’ve lied to me! You’ve betrayed me, I’ll make sure you regret it! I’ll make you pay dearly!”

As Julie was assaulted, she shrieked in pain, her hair disheveled and she broke down in tears.

Kyle continued to lash out, shouting, “Divorce! You’ll leave my house with nothing! If you don’t, I’ll have someone take care of your parents and your brother in a terrible way!”

Julie was utterly shattered! She had done everything in her power to marry into the Sullivan family, dreaming of a life of luxury, but now that dream lay in ruins!

All of this was because of Charlie!

Her hatred for Charlie surged, but at that moment, Charlie smirked disdainfully and turned to Claire, saying, “Let them have their fight, we should head in.”

With that, he took Claire’s hand and strode toward the elevator.

Claire’s beautiful eyes flickered with disbelief as she wondered how Charlie knew so much about Julie’s past.

Unable to suppress her curiosity, she looked at Charlie and asked, “Did you have someone investigate all of this?”

“Of course not! There’s no way I could do that.” Charlie chuckled and replied, “A classmate of mine was wronged by Julie. He’s been gathering information on her for a while and I didn’t expect it would come in handy today.”

As he spoke, Charlie led her into the elevator. Once inside, he pressed the button for the top floor. Claire suddenly asked, “Charlie, did you press the wrong button? Isn’t the top floor the sky garden?”

Charlie smiled softly, “We’re indeed heading to the sky garden on the top floor right now!”

Claire felt as if she had been struck by lightning! The sky garden? How could that be?

Everyone in Aurous Hill knew that a mysterious person had booked the sky garden for the evening.

Even if Charlie had considerable resources, it seemed impossible for him to have secured a reservation at the sky garden to celebrate their third wedding anniversary!

But just then, an audacious thought surged into Claire’s mind could it be that Charlie was the mysterious individual who had booked the entire sky garden?

Although it sounded like a fairy tale, was there really any other explanation?

With this in mind, Claire couldn’t help but ask, “Charlie, did you reserve the sky garden?”

Charlie smiled slightly, saying, “Yes, I have a grand surprise planned for you today! I want to give you a wedding celebration like no other!”

“Really?”

Claire felt as if her mind had momentarily short-circuited! If this truly was a spectacular surprise from Charlie, then wasn’t she about to become the happiest woman in Aurous Hill tonight? Her thoughts raced and her breath quickened as she struggled to process the realization.

While her emotions swirled inside her, the elevator doors opened to the top floor of the Shangri-La Hotel.

A member of the staff at the entrance bowed slightly and said with a smile, “Ms. Wilson, on behalf of Shangri-La Hotel, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to you and Mr. Wade on your wedding anniversary tonight.”

Charlie waved his hand, instructing, “You all can leave now!”

Immediately, the staff exited, leaving Claire and Charlie alone in the vast sky garden.

Claire felt as though she were in a dream.

Before her lay an expansive space adorned with luxurious decor. The stunning crystal ceiling lit up the entire sky garden, creating an atmosphere of elegance and tranquility.

Gentle piano melodies filled the air, soothing hearts and easing tension.

Fresh, high-end flowers flown in from abroad added a fragrant touch that was subtle yet transformative, enhancing the serene beauty of the moment.

Just then, the music shifted and the most classic wedding march, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” began to play, its melodic strains enveloping the scene.

While Claire admired the enchanting surroundings, Charlie, now dressed in a smart suit, approached her holding a bouquet of flowers.

With each step he took, vibrant red hearts rippled across the crystal glass floor.

It appeared as though the hearts danced along with the music, creating a captivating visual spectacle.

Outside the sky garden, countless onlookers gazed in longing through the crystal facade, enchanted by the unfolding events inside.

The only downside was that the glass had been fogged up to some degree. Although they could see the beautiful couple and the stunning arrangements within, they couldn’t quite make out their features.

Many women sighed with envy, exclaiming, “How romantic! I’ve never witnessed such a beautiful scene in my life!”

“If I were in her place, I’d gladly accept anything!”

“Oh my goodness! That man’s figure looks like the mysterious rich guy!”

“What a pity we can’t see his face! This is pure torture!”

The sight inside the sky garden captivated everyone who was watching, filling thousands of hearts with anticipation and envy.

All eyes brimmed with well wishes for the couple as they witnessed this extraordinary celebration seemingly suspended in the air.

Scores of women, overcome with emotion, felt an uncontrollable wave of envy wash over them, yearning to be the leading lady in such a magnificent wedding.

Even though no one could clearly see the couple’s faces this evening, the palpable happiness radiating from the heroine was unmistakable.

Charlie walked closer to her, gesturing towards the stunning night view of Aurous Hill visible through the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows and said tenderly, “Claire, I love you! I couldn’t give you a proper wedding before, but I hope you’ll cherish this intimate ceremony for just the two of us!”

Claire snapped back to reality, covering her mouth as tears streamed down her face like a rain of pear blossoms, falling gracefully onto her delicate features.

Overcome with emotion, Claire could no longer restrain the turmoil within her heart. She took a step forward and embraced Charlie, sobbing, “I love it! I truly love it! Thank you, Charlie! Thank you!”

In that moment, Claire wept with joy, feeling that every hardship she had endured over the past three years was worth it!

No matter how Charlie orchestrated all of this, what mattered was that she was immensely happy and tonight, she was undoubtedly the happiest woman in all of Aurous Hill!

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 22

The Amazing Son In Law Chapter 22

Everyone returned to the banquet hall and the Lady took Claire’s hand, leading her to the stage. She spoke in a warm tone, “I truly apologize for what happened earlier. I was confused and made a mistake. In truth, this success is due to Claire’s outstanding efforts. She is a remarkable descendant of the Wilson family, and her dedication was crucial in securing this cooperation between the Wilson family and Emgrand.”

Doris Young, standing beside her, scoffed and interrupted, “Allow me to clarify. For this collaboration, Miss Claire not only put in substantial effort, but she also brought it to fruition entirely on her own. Other individuals had nothing to do with it.”

Though her words were blunt, it was a common occurrence for those familiar with Doris’s demeanor. Given Emgrand’s stature, no one would dare to retaliate, even if Doris publicly insulted Lady Wilson.

Lady Wilson quickly nodded and affirmed, “Vice President Young is correct. All the credit belongs to Claire. Moving forward, Claire will be the director of our Wilson family! She will oversee the collaboration between the Wilson family and the Emgrand Group!”

Doris Young smiled, shaking Claire’s hand as she said, “I look forward to a successful partnership in the future.”

Claire, still somewhat bewildered, could only nod in response.

The audience erupted in applause, their eyes filled with admiration for Claire. Who is this woman? The Emgrand Group holds her in such high regard!

Claire, herself perplexed, turned to Charlie. The scene mirrored what Charlie had just described—Lady Wilson had returned the director position that should have been hers.

By the end of the banquet, Claire remained in a daze as she returned home.

Reflecting on Charlie’s earlier words, she felt increasingly confused. Over the past few days, Charlie seemed to have changed. There were many aspects of him that she could not grasp, as if he were surrounded by a veil of mystery.

That night, Claire gained notoriety in Aurous Hill! Everyone recognized that the Wilson family had an exceptional younger generation, and the Emgrand Group was ready to support her wholeheartedly! It appeared that with her, the revival of the Wilson family was imminent.

The following morning, Claire woke up early and excitedly headed to the office. Today marked her first day as director, and she was determined to give her all.

Meanwhile, Charlie started his usual housework after getting out of bed.

Once he finished cleaning and was about to head to the market to buy groceries for lunch, he received an urgent call from his mother-in-law, Elaine.

Upon answering, Elaine’s frantic voice came through, “Charlie, you need to get to Pinnacle Ave within ten minutes or I will not forgive you when I get home!”

She hung up shortly after.

Charlie, puzzled, noted that his mother-in-law had been untraceable since early morning. Her sudden call seemed urgent.

Despite his irritation toward Elaine, he knew he couldn’t ignore her request. He hurriedly grabbed his things and took a taxi to Pinnacle Ave.

As soon as he arrived, he noticed a group of elderly men and women gathered in front of a shut-down insurance company.

Elaine stood at the forefront, holding a banner and angrily shouting, “Axel is a fraudulent platform! We demand our rights and the return of my hard-earned money!”

Charlie rushed forward and asked, “Mom, what’s going on? Why did you call me here?”

The condemnatory slogans echoed around him, and the shouts of the crowd made his ears ring.

Elaine pulled Charlie into the crowd and instructed, “Take my place and start shouting this slogan for me. I’ve been at it all morning, and my throat is sore.”

Charlie, not fully understanding the situation, reluctantly joined the elderly protesters while occasionally asking a nearby uncle for clarification. He soon grasped that Axel Insurance Company had been marketing insurance products with outrageously high returns.

These uncles and aunts had invested their savings into these products, lured in by the promise of substantial returns. Now, as the dividend distribution period approached, they discovered the company had shut its doors, with only a few employees left to offer vague excuses.

Realizing the scam, the elderly crowd felt deceived and enraged.

No wonder Elaine had insisted on rushing him over to help her demand justice.

“Mom, how much did you spend on insurance?” Charlie questioned, a concerned frown creasing his forehead.

Elaine replied anxiously, “They promised high dividends, and in my excitement, I invested all our family savings into their products…”

Charlie was taken aback, “What? You invested all our family’s money in financial insurance?!”

Elaine snapped back, annoyed, “Oh, you think you can criticize? You’re making this worse for me!”

She continued her tirade, saying, “If you had any ambition, I wouldn’t feel the need to turn to their insurance products. If I can’t rely on them for my retirement, what hope do I have in you, who’s done nothing useful?”

He couldn’t bear the fact that not only did he fail to support the family, but he also had to deal with this fiasco.

Then, she commanded, “You’re going to keep shouting slogans for me here. Not a moment of silence!”

Left with no choice, Charlie nodded, “Alright, Mom.”

Just then, a few aunts approached, sizing Charlie up. One asked Elaine, “Elaine, is this your son-in-law?”

They looked at Charlie’s attire, chuckling, “Why does he look so shabby? He can’t hold a candle to my son-in-law.”

Another chimed in, “Yes, his clothes are terrible, not nice at all!”

Their remarks were harsh and unkind.

Charlie wasn’t bothered by their disdain, after all, they were merely elderly women mourning their lost savings. There was no need to engage with them.

Elaine felt enraged as she scrutinized Charlie. Her dislike for him grew stronger, and she exclaimed, “Just watch! I’ll have my daughter divorce him soon and find a better son-in-law!”

Charlie felt a quiet laugh rise within him. A better son-in-law? Not even the wealthiest heirs in Aurous Hill could compare to him.

Elaine’s anxiety heightened as she worried about her investments. With Charlie being of little use, she knew she needed someone competent to help recover her lost funds.
