Seeing that her parents were targeting Charlie, Claire sighed and said, “Dad, Mom, this situation has nothing to do with Charlie. I don’t want them to belittle me any longer. Haven’t we endured enough over the years?”
Claire’s mother abruptly exclaimed, “Then you can’t accept this job. Even if you disregard yourself, people won’t care about your grandmother anymore!”
Charlie wore a bitter smile as he took in the scene. He feared that his snobbish in-laws would never believe that he was actually the boss of Emgrand Group.
At that moment, there was a knock at the door.
“Coming, coming…”
Mother-in-law Elaine sighed and opened the door.
Charlie looked up and saw a young man dressed in an Armani suit standing at the entrance. He appeared both elegant and handsome, wearing a Patek Philippe watch on his wrist, which seemed to be worth at least three to five million.
Elaine, his mother-in-law, exclaimed excitedly, “Oh, it’s Wendell! What brings you here?”
The man who entered was Wendell Jones, the son of the Jones family, who had been pursuing Claire.
Wendell Jones smiled and said, “Aunt, I heard that Claire has taken over the collaboration with Emgrand Group, so I came here to offer her some advice.”
“Oh! You really are our family’s savior!”
Elaine’s excitement was palpable. She looked at Wendell Jones as if he were her future son-in-law and quickly welcomed him inside, saying, “Wendell, do you have a way to help Claire secure the Emgrand Group contract?”
Wendell Jones nodded with a smile, completely overlooking Charlie as if he were a mere ant on the sidewalk. He approached Claire with a slight grin and said, “Claire, I can’t believe you didn’t mention such an important development. Don’t worry, Emgrand Group collaborates with my company. I’ll ask my dad to lend a hand and do my best to assist you.”
In truth, Wendell Jones’s father had little influence, he said this merely to show off in front of Claire.
Claire had always known that Wendell was interested in her, so she replied coolly, “Wendell Jones, I appreciate your kindness, but I’ll find a way on my own.”
Elaine gasped in disbelief, “Claire, are you out of your mind? Young Master Jones is offering help with good intentions, how can you dismiss him like that?”
Without responding to her mother, Charlie interjected curiously, “Mr. Jones, I’m genuinely interested in how you plan to help Claire. Emgrand Group is so vast, and I doubt it’s within your control. Do you really have a way to secure a contract for Claire?”
Wendell Jones scoffed derisively and said, “What do you know? The Jones family has always had a solid partnership with Emgrand Group. If we get this project, we’ll get at least one-third of the two billion project from Emgrand! At that point, I can convince my father to allocate tens of millions from that share to contract with Claire, which will help her fulfill the requirements, right?”
Charlie responded in surprise, “Oh! I didn’t realize Mr. Jones’s family had such a close relationship with the Emgrand Group!”
Wendell Jones sneered, “Of course! In Aurous Hill, everyone knows our Jones family has a strong partnership with Emgrand Group.”
After saying this, Wendell Jones glared at Charlie, full of contempt, and advised, “Charlie, as someone stuck in a well, I suggest you step aside for Claire. You can’t provide her with the happiness she deserves, all you do is hold her back.”
At that moment, Claire said coolly, “I’m sorry, Mr. Jones, but I don’t need your help, and please do not speak disrespectfully to my husband!”
Wendell Jones was taken aback and exclaimed, “Claire, I’m going out of my way to help you, and yet you defend this loser? What is it about him that makes you want to protect him?”
Claire firmly replied, “He is not a loser, he is my husband!”
Wendell Jones’s face darkened with anger as he shot back, “Fine! You’re asking for it! I’ll be waiting to see how you manage this situation! If you can’t handle it, don’t blame me for not giving you a chance!”
With that, Wendell Jones turned around and slammed the door behind him.
Elaine wanted to chase after him to explain, but by then, he was already gone.
Frustrated, she slapped her thigh and directed her ire at Charlie, saying, “You’re infuriating! What can a useless person like you do except drag Claire down further? Young Master Jones was sincerely offering help, and you pushed him away!”
Charlie replied nonchalantly, “Mom, he was just talking. He couldn’t secure the Emgrand Group collaboration, so how could he assist Claire?”
“You’re talking nonsense!” Elaine retorted angrily. “The Jones family is set to gain one-third of the Emgrand Group projects, and you don’t understand anything!”
Charlie sneered inwardly, knowing full well the Jones family’s abilities. He recognized that Emgrand Group would never collaborate with them again! Even if there had been a history of cooperation, that relationship was now severed.
Claire, unaware of Charlie’s thoughts, turned to her mother and said, “Mom, don’t blame Charlie. Let’s discuss this after I return from Emgrand Group!”
“Ugh!” Elaine sighed, feeling that fate had been unjust. She had married a worthless husband, and Claire, instead, had found one even worse.

But who exactly is Master Wade? This man seems incredibly powerful after all, the Emgrand Group, valued at hundreds of billions, can acquire anything it desires. Even the richest individual in Aurous Hill cannot match his generosity!
As a result, numerous families were clamoring to make their move. They were eager to connect with the elusive Master Wade while simultaneously hoping for their daughters to marry him.
Moreover, the Emgrand Group announced plans for a $2 billion hotel project, which sent shockwaves through the construction and decoration industry in Aurous Hill!

Even securing a small portion could lead to immense profits!
Countless companies were vying for a chance to be involved.
Among them was the money-centric Lady Wilson!
Lady Wilson was thrilled at the news. A $2 billion project presents a significant opportunity! If the Wilson family were to secure a contract, it would be a monumental success!
Thus, she immediately ordered a family meeting at home that night to strategize about how to break into the Emgrand Group’s new project, insisting that everyone must attend!
That evening at the Wilson family villa.
Since the Lady required everyone’s presence, Charlie accompanied Claire.
He was aware that the Lady planned to discuss how to obtain a share of the major project from the Emgrand Group. He wanted to seize this opportunity to help his wife, Claire, gain some recognition!
Upon arriving at the Wilson family villa, Claire’s cousin Harold wasted no time in mocking Charlie, “Seriously, Charlie, you’re unbelievable! How can you even show your face here to see grandma?”
Claire retorted coldly, “Stop talking nonsense. It was grandma who summoned everyone from the Wilson family. Charlie is my husband, so naturally, he belongs to the Wilson family!”
Harold scoffed, “He’s not a true member of the Wilson family! He’s just a son-in-law!”
Charlie rubbed his nose and said to Claire, “Let it go, dear. Don’t waste your breath on him. Let’s head in so we don’t keep grandma waiting.”
Claire nodded, ignoring Harold and entered with Charlie.
Harold’s expression soured at this, knowing trouble awaited.
Once inside the conference room, Charlie and Claire found a seat in the corner.
Soon, Lady Wilson entered and the family meeting officially commenced.
Lady Wilson took her place at the head of the table, rapped lightly on it and announced enthusiastically, “The Wilson family has been waiting for a golden opportunity for years, one that can elevate us to a wealthy family in Aurous Hill! That opportunity has finally arrived!”
Lady Wilson continued, “The Emgrand Group is launching a $2 billion project. Whoever manages to secure a collaboration contract will reap substantial rewards! And this is the first major project since the Emgrand Group changed hands. This is a fantastic opportunity for our family! If we can partner with the Emgrand Group and make a great impression on its new owner, the future of our family will be boundless!”
Despite her enthusiasm, there was a palpable silence among the attendees.
In truth, the Wilson family had long coveted a partnership with the Emgrand Group. For ages, they had been ignored, so why would the Lady suddenly believe they could secure a piece of the new project?

Her announcement left the room in shock.
For as long as the Lady had led, she had never established a director position after all, that title held significant power and was typically reserved for the family’s future successor.
Now she was offering the role as an incentive, hoping to spur someone into action. It was clear she felt an urgent need for the Emgrand Group project.
However, while the position of director was appealing, it wouldn’t be easily obtained.
To the Wilson family, landing a contract with the Emgrand Group for $30 million felt like a pipe dream. Even if Lady Wilson herself went in person, the executives at Emgrand would likely ignore her, let alone engage in discussions about a partnership.
The meeting hall fell into an uneasy silence.
Witnessing this, Lady Wilson snapped, “As members of the Wilson family, is there truly no one willing to help shoulder our burdens?”
She then fixed her gaze on Harold, “Harold, I want you to handle this!”
Harold chuckled nervously, “Grandma, even Gerald White’s Family has been pushed out by the Emgrand Group. Our strength is even less than that of the Whites. What chance do we have at securing a contract with them?”
Lady Wilson scolded, “Useless! You’re giving up before even trying! You’re worse than Charlie, who’s nothing but a waste!”
In truth, Lady Wilson wasn’t entirely confident herself, but she didn’t want to be stuck managing a second or third rate family indefinitely. She envisioned the Wilson family rising to greater heights.
The Emgrand Group project represented their best opportunity.
Thus, despite the challenges, she refused to let go of this chance. She had anticipated Harold, as the eldest grandson, would seize this task enthusiastically, so it disheartened her to see him hesitating.
Harold felt frustrated as well. Who would willingly take on such an impossible task? He feared being rejected before even approaching the Emgrand Group.
Not only would he fail, but it would also turn him into a laughingstock, so he was determined not to agree, no matter what.
After reprimanding Harold, Lady Wilson called out, “What about the rest of you? Does no one dare to take on this challenge?”
Charlie gently nudged Claire with his elbow and whispered, “Wife, you should take on this task!”
Claire quickly retorted, “Are you crazy? There’s no way the Emgrand Group would collaborate with a small family like the Wilsons!”
Charlie replied with a reassuring smile, “Trust me, you’ll definitely succeed in negotiating this partnership!”
Claire looked at him in surprise, “Really?”

This surprise was not limited to just a jade necklace, he also wanted to present her with a romantic wedding.
Initially, Charlie and Claire had rushed into marriage at the old man’s request, leaving no time to hold a proper wedding.
The old man had planned to choose an auspicious date for a grand ceremony, but shortly after the couple obtained their marriage certificate, he fell seriously ill and had to be hospitalized, causing the wedding to be postponed.
Eventually, the old man passed away, and with no one in the Wilson family looking favorably upon Charlie, the prospect of a wedding seemed even more distant.
Now that he had the financial means, he was determined to give his wife the wedding she deserved!
When he thought of the wedding, the first place that sprang to his mind was the Sky Garden at Shangri-La!
The Shangri-La Hotel is currently the best hotel in Aurous Hill. It boasts expansive grounds, lavish decor, and a high-end shopping mall on-site.
The Sky Garden is located on the building’s top floor.
It’s named the Sky Garden because it features crystal glass construction along with premium flowers flown in fresh from abroad, giving it the appearance of an extravagant garden suspended in the air.
This is also the largest and most lavish banquet hall in Aurous Hill. Hosting a wedding here would cost at least several million dollars.
Charlie was now wealthy, and to him, millions of dollars were insignificant. Making his wife happy was what truly mattered.
Thus, he made his way to the Shangri-La Hotel, eager to book the Sky Garden for their anniversary celebration.
However, Charlie was unaware that Shangri-La implemented a membership system.
Whether one wishes to dine, stay overnight, or hold an event there, they must possess a membership card.
Additionally, different levels of membership come with different services.
Ordinary members can only dine in the lobby and stay in standard rooms,
Silver members enjoy dining in private rooms and accommodations in high-end luxury rooms,
Gold members can eat in luxury suites and have access to opulent accommodations,
Platinum members can dine in the Sky Garden and stay in ultra-luxurious suites.
The highest tier is the diamond members.
Only diamond members can book the presidential suite, and only they can reserve the entire Sky Garden for events.
Furthermore, achieving membership above the gold level is not solely dependent on wealth, one must also have adequate social status.
When Charlie arrived at Shangri-La, he was stopped by several men in black before he could enter.
“Excuse me, sir, could you please show us your membership card?”
Dressed in clothes worth no more than two hundred dollars, Charlie stood out starkly compared to the well-dressed guests around him.
He quickly responded, “I need to speak with your account manager about booking a venue.”
The guard replied coolly, “Sorry, you can’t enter without a membership card!”
Charlie asked, “Can I apply for a membership card right now?”
The guard shook his head and clarified, “Sorry, you must have an introducer to apply for a membership card.”
Frustrated, Charlie thought to himself that Shangri-La was being overly difficult.
Just when he felt stuck, he suddenly remembered that a college classmate named Sabrina, who was connected to the Wilson family, seemed to be working there!
He quickly pulled out his phone and called Sabrina.
After he explained that he wanted to apply for a membership card, Sabrina immediately responded, “Don’t worry, Class Rep, I’ll be right over!”
Charlie expressed his gratitude warmly.
Although he and Sabrina had only known each other for a year during college, there was still some friendship between them, and he felt he would need to repay her kindness in the future.

Sabrina smiled modestly, “Thank you, Team Leader. I’m just a team leader in the human resources department, really just a small leader in the ranks here at Shangri-La.”
Charlie sincerely praised, “That’s still quite an accomplishment. I’ve heard that Shangri-La has very high standards for management. You should be proud!”
Sabrina beamed with a hint of pride before turning to the two security guards beside her and demanding coldly, “So, you two are the ones who stopped my university classmate from entering?”
The guards exchanged nervous glances, and one hurriedly replied, “I’m sorry, Team Leader Lee. I didn’t realize he was your classmate, and he didn’t have a membership card. I was just following the hotel’s rules…”
Sabrina scoffed, “Rules are just rules, people matter more. Don’t you understand that?”
Worried that Sabrina might reprimand them, Charlie quickly interjected, “Sabrina, please don’t make things difficult for them, they’re just following the rules.”
Sabrina glanced at Charlie and then burst into laughter. Suddenly, she changed her tone and remarked sarcastically, “Class Rep, you’re taking this too seriously. Did you honestly think I’d make things tough for my subordinates for your sake?”
Charlie frowned, “Sabrina, what’s that supposed to mean?”
“What do you think it means?” Sabrina teased, a smirk on her face. “Isn’t it clear? You, a hopeless underachiever, think you can just waltz into Shangri-La? Trust me, you can forget about it for life!”
Charlie clenched his fists, asking her, “What do you mean by that?”
“I’m just having some fun!” Sabrina laughed, adding, “Back in college, I didn’t think much of you. You were just a loser focused on studying who couldn’t even afford a basic stir-fried dish in the cafeteria. You calling yourself a class leader? You really should take a look in the mirror!”

With a wave of his hand, Jack Yaleman rendered Matthew Gibson limp and humiliated on the ground.
“What now, Master Gibson? Are you convinced?” Zeke White chuckled.

Charlie shrugged, unimpressed. “Are your two tricks really considered magic?”
Jasmine quickly interjected, pulling Charlie aside. “You need to back down now. Jack Yaleman is genuinely powerful. Don’t risk your life for foolish pride.”
Jack Yaleman sneered, “You’re young and reckless. Tell me, are you ready to challenge me? If you lose, return my giant clam and kneel to apologize!”
Charlie smiled nonchalantly. “Compete? Who do you think you are? I’m not worthy of fighting someone like you.”
Gasps spread through the audience, this kid was brazen! Did he really want to court disaster?
The courtyard fell into a heavy hush.
Jasmine stood in shock now that he had said that, peaceful resolution seemed impossible…
Jack Yaleman erupted into laughter, stepping closer to Charlie. “In all my life, I’ve encountered many people, but none have sought their demise quite like you.”
Charlie replied, “It’s not a certainty who will survive this encounter.”
With a murderous glint in his eyes, Jack Yaleman was ready to strike.

If Charlie revealed his abilities in front of Jack Yaleman, he would not be treated lightly. The money spent might need to be repaid, with heavy interest.
With a wry smile, he said, “Then I won’t take up more of your time. You masters go on with your competition, let’s discuss this later. Everyone, focus on the matter at hand.”
Adam wanted to retort angrily, but Graham shot him a fierce glare that silenced him.

Seeing that Charlie agreed to the class reunion, Claire reminded him, “Douglas’s restaurant is opening, so we should prepare some gifts; we can’t go empty-handed.”
Charlie nodded and replied, “I’ll pick up a gift for him tomorrow morning.”
“Great,” Claire said. “It just so happens that I need to go to Emgrand Group tomorrow morning.”
Loreen exclaimed in surprise, “You’re coming to Emgrand tomorrow morning? Then find me when you’re done. I can take your car to Douglas’s restaurant at noon.”
Claire smiled and replied, “Sorry to burst your bubble, but I don’t have a car. I usually take a taxi or the bus and sometimes Charlie picks me up on his electric bike.”
“Really?” Loreen asked incredulously. “You’re already a director, yet you haven’t bought a car yet!”
Claire explained, “I haven’t been working for long and I’ve hardly made much money. Charlie and I have expenses to cover and I also support my mother. I can only save a few thousand dollars a month, which is not enough for a car.”
Additionally, Claire added, “Honestly, I think the bus is quite convenient. When the weather is nice, it’s actually pleasant to ride on Charlie’s electric bike.”
Loreen said earnestly, “You really need to pay more attention to appearances. After all, you’re now the director of Wilson Group and a direct partner of Emgrand. If you don’t even have a car, people will start to talk.”
Charlie felt that Loreen had a point. His wife had always been overly frugal, most of her earnings went to her mother, leaving her little to enjoy life.
His mother-in-law was a glutton who only consumed without contributing. She had saved over a million dollars and made risky investments, yet couldn’t even spare 200,000 or 300,000 dollars to buy a car for her daughter.
Realizing this, he felt it was necessary to buy a car for his wife, so that she would have more convenience and prestige when conducting her business.
Resolved, he made up his mind to visit the 4S store first thing the next morning.
After dinner, the couple bid farewell to Loreen and took a taxi home together.
The taxi’s radio was discussing the Shangri-La Sky Garden being completely booked out.
